The song uses a sample from Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". If you've ever heard another Nas song called "Thief's Theme"...it uses the same drum sampled just slowed down a bit. "Hip Hop Is Dead"...the song...is pretty good, but it's definitely one of my least favorites on the album. I really don't think he should have used it as his first single...maybe second or third.

Then again, I hate when people judge artists/albums because of the first single. It's usually just a catchy..sometimes corny song...that is most of the time the worst or one of the worst songs on the album. Jay-Z and Eminem have perfected this...but if you listen to the rest of their albums...the single always stands alone in it's catchiness and/or corniness lol.

Then they leave a song and give a little background if you can (maybe your favorite song, or just one that you think people will like)...and the next person will comment/rate it...and it goes on and on......(I hope this works out like I planned, we'll see Rating: 5
