Cannabutter/oil cooking times

Howdy guys, new to posting in the forums, but not necessarily new to the board.

I like to cook whenever I can with bud, but am always looking to improve my recipes and THC extraction. Having checked out the different recipes and reccomendations on this board, one of the biggest variations among the techniques I've read is just how long the bud should be cooked for. I've seen everything between 20 minutes to 24 hours, to taking the oil or butter off the heat as soon as you smell the pot vapors. Personally I've always been successful around the 45 minute mark (but it's hard for me to tell if I could be doing a better job)

Is a longer cook time necessarily better for more THC extraction? Can you in fact overcook the bud, even at a medium to medium-low temperature?

At the moment I don't have the time or the resources to test out all these different strategies, so I'm just trying to gather some input so I can make a mean batch next time around. Thanks so much!
