    Roots Question

In a simple Ebb and Flow (example below) how do you deal with the roots coming out the bottom of the media container? Is it an issue?

I've always read that in Hydro the roots wouldn't grow out of control because they don't have to. So a simple container would do.

    Roots Question

The roots will grow quite a bit....I would cut the pots off and fill the table with hydroton and let them sit in that.

    Roots Question

naw...leave the buckets, and fill with hydroton, or just make a cover...my local store guy grows everything just like that ebb and flow with the buckets just sitting in the tray...
personally, I like the idea of hydroton filling the tray. or at least get a coco mat. peace

    Roots Question

the biiggest concern is that you do not want algae to form all over the tray and rootzone...

you need to light tight the tray with panda plastic or something. Look in the insulation area of the building material hardware store...for something reflective and firm enough to at least "sit" rigidly...some people use thin sheets of styrofoam...hope this helps

That's what I like about the current setup, the tray dries in between floods and there's no Alge problem. If one fills the tray with hydroton or a coco mat then you have that to worry about.

For giggles, what will happen if it gets left like this? Will it be a disaster?

OK...the medium in your netpots will still remain damp and your roots will be exposed. goodluck
