How can i stop my mothers from over growing??

im happy only having a couple mothers going at a time but i dont necessesarily need them becoming trees on me either.... Im running a 400 Mh as close to them as I can without heating them up, but i wanna keep them as contained as possible... Also can u overuse 1 plant for a mother??? should i always use the same mammas?? do u rotate them??? thanks all

Those are some nice lookin' mama's! You just gotta keep taking cuttings and prune regular! It won't hurt them to cut them back either.You could cut them back like you would an azalea in the yard.Leave most of the shoots and cut them back to the second to the last node! They will stay bushy! Nice plant's!

do a search for bonsai mothers. i can keep a bonsai style mum about 12inches tall or less in a 5 1/2 inch sqaure pot for about 18months( i do prune the roots every 5-6months) and get 10-20 clones every 2-2 1/2 weeks, and that's under flouros only.

plant on the left's stalk is just under 1'4" and the other is about 1'... with the bonsai mother are u doing sea of green??? or are u just tossing the clippings to keep her short???

Do a search on bonsai and you will find a thurrow artical I posted on here. But if you don't, then just cut the tops, next time keep them in small pots and don't keep them close to your 400W. Keep them on the side or approx 2FT away and after you take cuttings just put them back up to it for a few days and it will help to premote the new growth faster. Also, feed low amounts of N except after cutting or just get something like some Shults 20-20-20 all purpose potting soil and just plain water and change soil out once a year and only feed nutes if they show defs.

Bluebear pretty much got cha covered on the next technique,I was gonna suggest.That was why I asked how tall was the main stalk. Anyway,you got a grip on the jest of it! The rootball is the main thing you gotta work with cause of becoming rootbound.I'd keep them babies going! Are they both from seed?

if you have them in square pots you can just take them out of the pot every few months and use a sharp knife to slice off a bit of the rootball on all 4 sides then repot into the same pot and fill in the empty space around the edges with new soil. i always take cuts every 2 weeks or so even if they are not needed, just toss them.
