my best friend's brother is getting married

and I have been invited. besides blenders and silverware, what is a good gift for a modern, eclectic, fun loving, outgoing couple in thier twenties? i dont want to buy them a toaster oven, but then again I dont want to buy them candles or novelty items.
p.s. this is an intimate, non-traditional wedding taking place at the Unitarian Universalist church in Annapolis.

Wasn't that Pez answer your answer on another thread, too, Skink? Oh yeah, it was one of your blessings. You nutball.

I used to try and think of really creative, nifty presents for couples getting married, and then I sort of began to put myself in their places a bit more. That's when I began looking at what they were registered for and getting something from their lists since I knew for sure those were things they wanted.

Now I rather like the idea of solid, durable presents that last. Two of my favorite wedding gifts that I still use are a rectangle of polished marble, like a marble cutting board for the kitchen counter, and a marble turntable (a lazy Susan) that still sits in the middle of our dining room table. Those things are surprisingly affordable, and they're very solid and lasting. Every time I see those marble pieces, even 24 years later, I think, "Oh, John and Kristen gave that to us. What a cool present."

When I was at Crate and Barrel the other day, I decided that if I'm invited to any weddings this spring, I'm going to get the couple a set of those new, stemless wine glasses. They're shaped like wine glasses--or at least the bowl part--but they don't have stems so they're a lot less fragile. And they're modern and pretty. (I put those on my list because they're what I'd like to receive!)
