Beckham moving to America was basically his only way out of Spain. He wasn't seeing jack for playing time anyways. But there's no way in hell he's worth that kind of money. No one is. The MLS is just *really* desperate for something, or someone rather, to jump-start their league and make it as close to a success like all the other leagues overseas.

They must be REALLY desperate though, to shell out that kind of cash for a player that is past his prime...playing wise...but for modeling underwear....shooooot...he's not done yet.

He will be good for the MLS though, because if there's one player any kid in America even remotely interested soccer knows, it's David Beckham. Yes, lol, there is an "H" there...for the birth mother/father of this thread. But Becks will draw in the cash, in the meantime tarnishing the rest of his reputation and hopefully being labeled the coward he is. Why not stay and tough it out, Becks? You'd rather have a fat check to hand over to your plastic wifey-poo. I just hope I don't have to hear too much of his girly, whiney voice, because no one should have to go through that. Frickin' nancy-boy is what he is.

And as far as the whole hooligan scene in Europe, I will admit it's been out of hand for some time, but who really is going to stop a bunch of drunk idiots fighting and yelling at each other? I know I'd be embarrassed to be associated with ingrates like that at the games, giving both football and my country a bad name. But when your country is known for its intoxicated citizens, that usually doesn't mesh well. It's not that hard to stay away from the sauce until after the game at least. There are players pushing for changes though, so that's always a step in the right direction. Drunk rowdiness isn't really something for Europeans to be proud of, yet some are. ~

if you read carefully youll realize it is a fiftymillion dollar contract. which for the mls is huge but it is kind of annoying how they are making it seem like the biggest deal ever when 80% is paid in endorsements and not by the team. this has been tried before with soccer. people are interested in beckham but not beckham the soccer player. better players than beckham have been brought over before and the soccer leagues still went under. the only question is whether the mls will last the length of his contract

why must you guys fight, yes in the football stadiums there is a fight here and there, but nothing like Europe soccer games.

I am embarrassed as a human when i hear all the monkey chants coming from the stands when a black player touches it...

I would like to see Warren Sapp, or some huge 300 lbs football player go kick the shit out of about 50 soccer hooligans at a time..........

    Now that would be funny......
I'm glad that we agree on something Mr bong .
hooligans are just cowards and only attack as a pack.
IT is embarrassing to be watching your team play only to get home and watch that the news about the game was the violence.
plus than because you support your national team & go to watch them abroad
just to be branded as a hooligan.
By the way mr bong my son played football today his team won
    7-1.
watch out proud daddy on the line.

the guys like to get drunk and fight let them alone i think the atmosphre might be the best thing about european soccer not that id know.
i still thinks its funny that people love comparing football and soccer just because they have the same name when beyond that they are nothing alike. compare it to hockey or something that is at least similar. they both take skill, one isnt easier than the other. let people have their opinions for christsake people dont get this fired up when they like chocolate ice cream and other people like vanilla

i love the American attitude to soccer. they dissmiss it out of hand even though EVERY other country in the world plays it. and no one else plays thier type of football
i like your world championships too, the one's where only the americans play.
i can only assume that they think there the only ones good enough, or maybe they don't know theres other countrys out there?
hey, i aint complaining, i like it.
maybe us British should try it. then we could win the world cup EVERY year.
we could play wales for the world rugby championship
and if anyone complains we send the troops in.

i like your british attitude where you get really really upset over what americans call things as if it makes some sort of difference in what it is.

Well actually, Pele' made his way to America and played for the New York Cosmos back in the day, and the league was a pretty big success for a while...then it went under once he stopped playing.

And really, teknonra, I don't know how you can say European football ISN'T out of hand. Come on matey, look past your ego and open your eyes. Instead of bashing America with no real point made, look at what's happening. If you think black players having bananas thrown at them isn't out of hand, there is ZERO class across the pond, which I know isn't true. Generalizing American's, or anyone for that matter, also shows incredibly bad taste on your part. And that would be a good idea for England to start their own world championships, because that's the only way they'll win a cup anytime soon. A VERY poor showing this last WC if you ask me. 11 guys all playing for themselves, and it showed...

I'm glad to be an American, but I'm a fan of football. ~

We could always give the hooligans the pitch so they can kick fuck out of each other after the match, it could be televised and the injuries tallied to see which teams hooligans win.

Beckham will not make soccer a contender in professional sports in the US.
    All about the money.
