My Friend Gets Bad Highs
I have trouble with this, so I will give my two centavos on mota.
Try to clear the mind and turn off the little voice that constantly acts to look into the past and future to make sure everything is ok. You almost have to drop into a sort of intuitive and subconscious existence that only cares about the now. Each state of being has a sort of inertia.
You have to forget the worries of the past and present, just focusing on joy of doing whatever you want to right now.
Doing something crazy and/or completely physical might be the best way to lose all that thought.
Dance like a fool. Laugh your head off. Make funny sounds. Eat like a pig. Hump a chair. Or just change your setting or music.

My Friend Gets Bad Highs
Haha, word. You're right. The first time I smoked it was in my friend's car, and I felt a bit uncomfortable. It was my first time though, so I only had an idea of how the high would be, but for the most part it was unpredictable. After I smoked a few times, the paranoia and what-not went away, and me and my friends hotbox in my car all the time. Just tell your friend that there's nothing to worry, and it won't happen the next time. Weed can play major mind games on oneself, and it's all about conquering it with either 1. facing it, 2. deciding not to care because it can't hurt you anyway (<--- that is how I got over the paranoia--realizing that even though I was paranoid, the effects cannot hurt me, and I cannot overdose. So who cares, right?

Usually if I'm smoking with someone I'm a bit uncomfortable with, aka people I don't know (friend's friends, usually), it can ruin my high a bit. But then I get over it because I realize they are high too, and I have nothing to worry about (like them judging me, or something). Keep it real, and tell your friend that he has nothing to worry about. Tell him that weed plays many mind games.

Has he ever been caught or anything like that
I got caught by my mom once
and for a year after that Getting high just stressed me out with the paranoia and what not. I just kept thinking about getting caught or judged and it ruined by high and made me act like a dumb fuck.
Enviroment is the big thing don't make him drive at rush hour and dont be like COPS! and watch him freak out.

put him in a nice chill room he is comfortable in (with no parents in the house), have some music playing in the background, and a ps2 or something. trust me, he will not sketch out anymore that day lol. he will chill out with more experience (hopefully).

I think what is happening is pure fear mixed with placebo.
When I first started (or at least the first 5+ times I smoked) I was always worried about knowing when to stop, or being to high.
What I would do with him is pack a bowl of mids, and have him take a hit evry 5-10 minutes until he is at a comfortable spot, high-wise.
Remember how many hits he took, and have him take that many next time.
Theoreticly, this will determine his good-high spot.
Also, don't be afraid of acting liek a dumbass so he laughs.
If he can focus on you being funny, other then being high as hell, he will start to understand the whole point of being high.
