Depending on how many are there, they could work quite nicely if used in the proper manner.

In no way would you get the same results as with HPS. But flouros can and do produce results; I'm expecting about 1-2 oz/plant using 300W of CFL. If I used 300W HPS I'd prolly get 2-3 oz/plant. So the diference can be significant. Flouros are best for small spaces where ventilation is an issue. If you have the space & ventilation, go HPS.
Volker Reviewed by Volker on . 48 in 40 watt plant FL Well I was in my Dad's attic and I see a bunch of Flouresent(?) lights just there. I look at them and they are plant lights. I moved out around 2 months ago to a house with 2 room mates and wanted to grow some bud. Right then an idea came to my head, could I use those lights (They are 40 watt, 48 inch, "plant and aquarium" Floresent(?) lights) and get the same results as a HPS system (I get paid in Wednesday and was going to drop 200 bones on the HPS)?.
