AHLaD: First off, shitty situation man. Definitely not desirable, but you're getting some good (and some stupid) advice in this thread.

First of all, quite the cigarettes. IMHO, smoking cigarettes is less ideal than playing on train tracks: because with the train tracks, you get an adrenaline rush, and you're not necessarily gonna die.

Next up, I'd say cut down the pot use, but don't stop using cannabis. If you're used to smoking 6-10 joints a day, try cutting down to 1 or 2. Smoke them at night, before you go to bed, it should help you get sleep.

Marijuana IS NOT addictive (I'll come back to this point later), although I can imagine you might be craving the high with the whole girlfriend thing having just happened. I'd say any craving you have for a joint is probably a projection of your nicotine addiction. Go on the patch, talk to a doctor about how to quit cigarettes, just get rid of those things however you can. Spend the money you save by not buying cigarettes on a nice vaporizer if you want.

If you're having trouble dealing with the girlfriend-bestfriend fiasco (and you have every reason to have a problem with that) I'd advise seeing a psychologist. I've been to see a very good psychologist several times, and it really helps me sort out my thoughts.

And you should definitely take up a new hobby. Since you're a singer (I am too) maybe start taking some additional voice lessons, or start writing songs. If you want to try something new, I"m gonna throw out a curveball and suggest you take some Tai Chi classes. I think that would help.

I have to get off my PC right now, but I'm gonna return to this thread to talk about how unaddictive weed is.

Weed, like anything can be addictive. I'm addicted. I love it. BUT WHY WOULD I QUIT? Will I lose my job, family or home? Hell no. Moderate yourself, and practice self control. Self control, and self discipline is key. Once we learn that, we can smoke all day and night and still be productive.

BTW, none of that was directed at the guy who created this thread. If that's what you feel it's gonna take for you to get on the up and up man... Then you do it.

I really don't like the whole "anything can be addictive" mindset. That just sounds like a needless excuse. If you accept that everything is addictive, what does that make heroin? Super addictive? Extra addictive?

I guess I shouldn't spam up this thread with too much stuff, but hopefully you see the direction I'm taking.

Heroin is very, very physically addicting. Where as, let me use the gambling example again, can be very mentally addicting.

Of course it's not anything when compared with withdrawals from other substances, but it's still there. When quitting smoking after I've been every day I suffer from insomnia, loss of appetite, and irritability for the first couple days. But the insomnia seems to last longer.

The best way I've found to stop is to simply not buy any more.
Meh, most sources I've read have said it's mentaly addictive but not physically. Try going through a simple 10mg SSRI withdrawal (These are prescribed in up to 50mg tablets) and you'll understand why I say pot isn't addicting.
