Israel planning a nuclear strike on Iran

LONDON - Israel has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons, Britain's Sunday Times newspaper said yesterday.

Citing what it said were several Israeli military sources, the paper said two Israeli air force squadrons had been training to blow up an enrichment plant in Natanz using low-yield nuclear "bunker busters".
Two other sites, a heavy water plant at Arak and a uranium conversion plant at Isfahan, would be targeted with conventional bombs, the Sunday Times said.
The UN Security Council voted unanimously last month to slap sanctions on Iran to try to stop uranium enrichment that Western powers fear could lead to making bombs.
Tehran insists its plans are peaceful and says it will continue enrichment.
Israel has refused to rule out pre-emptive military action against Iran along the lines of its 1981 air strike against an atomic reactor in Iraq, although many analysts believe Iran's nuclear facilities are too much for Israel to take on alone.
An Israeli government spokeswoman, Miri Eisin, declined comment on the Sunday Times report.
Israel does not discuss its assumed atomic arsenal, under an "ambiguity strategy" billed as warding off regional foes while avoiding arms races.
"We don't comment on stories like this in the Sunday Times," Eisin said.
In Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told a news conference that the newspaper report "will make clear to the world public opinion that the Zionist regime (Israel) is the main menace to global peace and the region".
He said "any measure against Iran will not be left without a response and the invader will regret its act immediately".
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and Israel has said it will not allow Iran to acquire a bomb.
The Sunday Times quoted sources as saying a nuclear strike would only be used if a conventional attack was ruled out and if the United States declined to intervene.
Disclosure of the plans could be intended to put pressure on Tehran to halt enrichment, the paper added.
It said the Israeli plan envisaged conventional laser-guided bombs opening "tunnels" into the targets.
Nuclear warheads would then be used fired into the plant at Natanz, exploding deep underground to reduce radioactive fallout.
Israeli pilots have flown to Gibraltar in recent weeks to train for the 3 200 km round-trip to the Iranian targets, the Sunday Times said, and three possible routes to Iran have been mapped out including one over Turkey.
An Israeli defence source, who did not want to be identified, wrote off the Sunday Times report as "psychological warfare".
"If we have such capabilities, I find it extremely unlikely that we would use them in a 'tactical strike'," the source said.
"Israel's nuclear option, if it exists, is exclusively part of a second-strike doctrine," the source said, referring to a deterrent strategy whereby a country ensures it can retaliate massively for a catastrophic attack on its territory.
Washington has said military force remains an option while insisting that its priority is to reach a diplomatic solution. Nampa-Reuters

God if you are out there and listening....please stop them. This will start the war of all wars....

??Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.?

?? I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.?

He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.?

Yeah, saw that on tv today. Some seriously scary shit.

Truly disturbing, yet Iran's President did say that they would wipe Israel off the map. Iran is a dictatorship by definition, and a harsh one. During the Holocaust Denial meetings, Iran's President said to come to Iran to experience true freedom...and I pretty much laughed at that statement. There is no "freedom" in Iran. There leaders are fucking crazy theocratic bastards like the neo-cons in America. The only difference is the name of the religion. One kills in the name of Allah, the other one kills in the name of Jesus.

It's bullshit governments like Iran that instigate this shit, but both sides must realize that there is no winner in a nuclear exchange. Iran has vowed to retaliate if they are attacked and make no mistake...they will.

Pray to God, Allah, Buddha, or whomever you hold to be a higher power in the Universe that this shit does not take place.

On the other end, I am also not a sympathizer to the Israelis either as I believe they are occupying land that rightfully belongs to the Arabs. I am sick and tired of hearing this bullshit on the Christian TV networks and Fox News that the US must support Israel. They should just get the fuck out and come to the US or another country and then the Middle East problem will solved. It's Arab land!

However, I am a man for integrating cultures and living side by side with different people and both are acting like little children. Personally, I would find it cool for people of the 3 Abrahamic religions living side by side and there are many Jews who feel this way and both Jews and Arabs hate the bullshit fighting that is going on.

I don't know why the British allowed Zionist Jews to migrate to Palestine during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Did they ever think..."hmm..maybe the Arabs wouldn't like it. Ehh fuck em! It will satisfy the Jews if we let them go back to their old land"

But rest assured, if Israel strikes, Iran WILL retaliate and the US WILL BE BROUGHT IN TO HELP! I wonder if thats why Bush is sending more troops to Iraq so they will have some reinforcements because Iran will definitely slaughter the Americans in Iraq. The US will be overwhelmed by both Iranian, Syrian, and Iraqi militia troops....which they will not be able to defeat at the current level.

Howdy HinduKush,

Just calm down..take a couple of deep breaths..relax..yer just having a Cindy Sheehan moment..hopefully-it'll pass and won't become permanent..lol.

Just because we have another carrie group moving to the Gulf, doesn't mean that we're on the verge of opening a can of whup-ass..just because 70% of the ied's,are being provoded by Iran and we got some of their military advisors there,red-handed,doesn't mean that we will use that as a motive for slaughtering the enemy. However,Israel is our ally and the only democracy in the region, except for Iraq's fledgeling democracy,so we will ensure Israel's survival..over that of their brutal neighbors.

I realize, that you'd rather git on yer knee's and pray for dhimmitude..and what the heck, what's another tax(jizra),on top of all of the taxes the dim's will slap on us soon ?

I don't think that you'll like being schooled in a madrassa or mosque,tho-Islam is a tedious and laborious religion to learn, kinda like Catholics and their Catechism schools or studying for the Bar Mitzvah..it's a real grind !

Yer fear of having yer throat slit or being be-headed,is justified and I can understand why you fear the muslim-jihadists and would figure that maybe if ya butter em up with a heavy dose of flattery, along with a sincere apology for being so rude as to anger them..that they might be satisfied and put aside their plans for you..being the kafir(infidel),that You and I are,in their eyes.

Have a good one ...

f.y.i. hindu kush, the jews inhabited present-day israel for over four thousand years, up until they were expelled by the romans after a failed revolt in 132 a.d. the arab population filled the gap after that and was the somewhat exclusive inhabitants until the jewish movement to return to their homeland. the partition the u.n. passed in 1948 would have had the jewish and arab population coexisting, each with an equal share of land and their own sovereignty. however, the day the british troops left, 5 surrounding arab nations (the invaders also include the palestinians) invaded the israeli side and got their asses kicked by the jews. on top of that, several other times israel has been attacked by its muslim neighbors, and has not once taken over arab land unless first provoked. WHAT THE FUCK HAVE THEY DONE THAT IS WRONG?!?
sorry for the history schpeel, but seriously, how do you figure the arabs are the "rightful" owners of the land??

Leak of Israel??s Plan to Nuke Iran Smell Like BS
January 06, 2007
By John Bambenek

Drudge Report is splashing the news that the Sunday Times of London plans on reporting that Israel is planning a nuclear strike against Iran to head off Iran??s nuclear ambitions. According to Drudge:

Israel has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran??s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons, the SUNDAY TIMES of London is planning to report, British media sources tell DRUDGE?

At first glance, the entire story smells of a fabrication. The obvious reason being that if Israel had secret plans to nuke Iran, they likely wouldn??t have been leaked. If they did get leaked, the police better start dredging the Sea of Galilee for the bodies of those involved. More importantly this leak gives huge benefits to Iran.

Israel is not stupid. A tactical nuclear weapon would likely do very little for a protected underground bunker. It is possible that either Drudge or the London Times doesn??t know precisely what a tactical nuclear weapon is. However, the fact remains in order to really do damage to the facility an ICBM (a strategic nuclear weapons) would need to be used. The momentum of a missile coming down from low earth orbit would be necessary to burrow deep enough to do the damage desired. There is indication that even then, the strike might not be successful.

One simulation indicated it would require 400 or so missiles to do the job. At best, entrances and exits from the underground facility could be collapses and that would certainly delay the program. The radiation from the strikes would need to dissipate and the tunnels would have to be rebuilt. It is possible such a strike could be times when Iran??s nuclear weapons were being brought above ground, but that would be extremely difficult to pull off.

Iran??s move to build its nuclear program underground was brilliant. They learned the lessons of Iraq in 1981. However, the key defense of the move is also its biggest weakness. Namely, any nuclear weapon developed underground could not be used until it is brought above ground at already known locations. A nuclear strike at those locations would keep the weapons out of Iranian hands underneath irradiated soil. That move, however, is only a temporary solution.

It is likely that both Israel and the US have drawn up simulations and plans but every indication is that they are a last resort. The other fact is that these plans aren??t precisely secret, at least in general. Leaking the plans now, just shortly after sanctions have been levied against Iran indicate that the plans were likely not coming from Israel.

Iran??s general tactic has been to run the clock and delay as much as possible. This indicates that they are likely very close to being finished making nuclear weapons which would change the dynamics of diplomacy greatly. They have every incentive to keep stalling until they??ve met that landmark.

This plan, being leaked now in the way it was only gives more cover to Iran. The international community and human rights groups will likely jump all over Israel and demand investigations and action. Despite basically looking the other way of actual genocide going on in Darfur, they??ll jump to action on the rumor of a hypothetical ??genocide.? We??ll skip past the international community??s non-response over Iran??s very public desire to commit genocide against Israel.

This leaking has every indication that it was done by Iran, or a supporter or Iran, to give more cover and time. While international eyes are peering at Israel, Iran??s program will continue undeterred.

Israel planning a nuclear strike on Iran

I heard about this too yesterday off my dad, it does sound very grim, but we as the public do not know the whole truth so we shouldn't judge yet, In my opinion Bush has another 2 years left in power and the democrats control the senate and congress so Bush can pass any laws anymore so I think this is his way of getting at Iran after all his threats, just my opinion and also, why is Israel allowed to have nuclear weapons and Iran isn't? I'm completely against nukes but if Israel have it (and they're more of a threat to all Arab countries) then why can't Iran have it. Not fair is it, then again life isn't fair.

The size of Israel is only 10,000 sq. miles. How can they let a country that has called for its destruction become nuclear capable?

I'm sorry, but I think you are mistaken. How am I having a Cindy Sheehan moment? I respect her a lot but I provided both sides of my argument. In Canada, most people are against your war in Iraq and they believe George W. Bush is a warmongering moron on a mission. It's common knowledge that people around the world and in Canada believe the Iraq War was based on false intelligence and that Iran will be a likely target by the US later on. I don't see why the West must support Israel 100%. More and more people are fearing the US now. With great power, comes great responsibility and it is not responsible for a country to flat out attack another one if the intelligence was false and posed no threat.

We like Americans. We just don't like your leader.
