Army leaders to apologize to slain soldiersâ?? families

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Richard Cody announced today that he and other Army leaders will personally contact the families of about 75 deceased officers and 200 wounded officers to apologize for sending them a letter encouraging them to consider returning to military service.

The letters were sent Dec. 26-28 to more than 5,100 Army officers who recently served and were supposed to have been generated from a list that had been â??scrubbedâ?� for injured or deceased soldiers.

Instead, the original list was inadvertently used, and the letters went out in the mail.

â??The mistake was as simple as someone pushing the wrong button,â?� said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, who explained that as soon as the mistake was discovered, â??we immediately went into overdriveâ?� to try to assess the depth of it.

It's shit like this that makes me lose respect for the Army (not the Soldiers).
