1st grow questions
I have been reading and taking notes for the past few weeks but with some things, I over analyze and make it more tough than needbe so I have a few random questions that have popped up.This will be in a small room with a 7 foot high ceiling, roughly 5 feet wide and 8 feet long, light proof with myler covering the walls. I plan to use bagseed and would like to produce 2-3 plants the first go around. If I'm lucky
And I'm most likely going to be growing them in large 22 gallon garbage cans.
Lighting/electical
From my reading, the lights need to be on a timer (which I have.) I have access to junction box 120 volts inside that I could tap into to run a few lights off of.
If I do this, I won't be able to use a timer is this correct? So if not should I then shoot for using a surge protector and 2-3 other small lights? I have no idea what type of lights I need. Since these are going to be plugged in, am I pretty much limited to either a shop light or something like a desk light that I can just suspend above my girls? Or do they make other plug-in type lightunits that would be suitable for this that I could just swap the bulbs in if needbe?kknight Reviewed by kknight on . 1st grow questions I have been reading and taking notes for the past few weeks but with some things, I over analyze and make it more tough than needbe so I have a few random questions that have popped up.This will be in a small room with a 7 foot high ceiling, roughly 5 feet wide and 8 feet long, light proof with myler covering the walls. Wow....22 gallon garbage cans? That's going to take up a lot of valueable space. You don't need to have a timer as long as you'll be near your plants. What type of light cycle will they be on? 24/7 (obviously no timer needed) 18/6? or other? You could either use a bunch of CFL's or one HID. A 400w switchable would be perfect for your space and you'd have the bulbs you need for both phases...hps for flower/mh for vegging. They can illuiminate up to 5' x 5' garden. A surge protector is good for safety purposes. And most HID's can plug into a grounded outlet with no problem. Some people have had amazing results with CFL's but on the whole you'll get more yield and denser buds with an HID. Good luck, Happy Growing and Peace!
Please trip them gently, they don\'t like to fall, oh by jingo. There\'s no room for anger, we\'re all very small, oh by jingo. We\'re painting our faces and dressing in thoughts from the skies, paradise, oh by jingo. Won\'t someone invite them? They\'re just taller children, that\'s all, afterall. Some march together and some on their own, quite alone. Others are running, the smaller ones crawl but some sit in silence, they\'re just older children, that\'s all.

A few thoughts:
-There's NO reason to use 22 gallon pots. Start with 1 or 3 gallons and repot when necessary.
-I don't know why you think you can't use a timer. You can always use a grounded timer with a grow light.
-You can fit a lot of plants in a 5 x 8 space. A lot of plants need a lot of light. You could EASILY do with a 1000w HPS in there, two of em if you can exhaust the heat. A 400 watter (or CFLs, especially) is going to limit the upside of your grow.
"I have been reading and taking notes for the past few weeks...I have no idea what type of lights I need." - Read some more! If you're only getting one light, get an HPS.
Good Luck.:smokin:

I had planned on using the garbage cans because they are free leftovers from my brother's keg party.
I'm not ready to grow yet obviously, I still need to read up on the light cycle benefits for me to decide.
I would be close to my grow but keep weird hours at home occasionally so a timer would make things a bit easier I believe.
I should have been more specific about the timer (and I was slightly buzzing). I have little knowledge about timers. A friend found one at his house that was a plug in type. If I had to do any re-wiring, I didn't know how envolved wiring a timer would be.
I'm looking into the HID's now. I'm hoping to look on Ebay and others to see what I can find.

It's common for growers and the new ones, I recommend hitechgarden suppy in PA...., are virtual noiseless. Good luck and keep us posted. Peace.

I don't know why you think you'd have to re-wire the timer?
