sprout laying over this morning
One of my sprouts was laying over, 90 degrees, on the soil this morning. I think the soil is getting too dry, as I watered the heck out of the containers when I planted the sprouts, and have been watering a small amount since then daily right onto the plant using a turkey baster to not disturb the soil too much, like an ounce or two a day.
The other sprouts looked great this morning.
I watered this am, just another oz, and will check on them in a couple of hours, but would the plant lay down like this if it was dry? They're kinda stretched out, but I'm working on that by using one 100w cfl like 1-2" above each sprout. At this point they're all 2"-3" tall and it looks like the 2nd set of fan type leaves is ready to grow today on most of the sprouts.
Any thoughts?herbaltivo Reviewed by herbaltivo on . sprout laying over this morning One of my sprouts was laying over, 90 degrees, on the soil this morning. Oh, the plants are already in 3 gal containers, and the soil is moderately dry 3 inches into the soil, not directly under the plants, but nearby.

Sprouts need lots of water. You don't have to water them so much, just water them thoroughly when you do. I've heard it's beneficial for the roots if you make them work for their water....but that comes in time if you ask me. Anyhow, pics please...then I can have a better idea of how to help. Peace.
Please trip them gently, they don\'t like to fall, oh by jingo. There\'s no room for anger, we\'re all very small, oh by jingo. We\'re painting our faces and dressing in thoughts from the skies, paradise, oh by jingo. Won\'t someone invite them? They\'re just taller children, that\'s all, afterall. Some march together and some on their own, quite alone. Others are running, the smaller ones crawl but some sit in silence, they\'re just older children, that\'s all.

If the area immediately around the stem and roots is constantly wet (as opposed to LIGHTLY damp) then it sounds like damping off or root rot. Sounds kind of like you are watering just about every time you look at them
Pics would be great....Also stake them (gently) for support.

It doesn't look dead, it looks dry and limp. It still has good color. I think that the root system has been growing into the deeper soil for its moisture, and maybe that soil has dried out too much.
I get back home in like 4 hrs, so I'll look at/water them then. Maybe a significant watering of the surrounding soil to give the root system more mositure farther out to grow a stronger root system.
I haven't really watered each entire container in several days (damn, I need to keep a log) I just have been watering around the sprout, and to me, 1 oz of water doesn't seem like too much.
Bear in mind that I have no idea what I'm doing here.
This is the thread I've been discussing in primarily, but this kinda freaked me out so i created a new one this morning for this specific problem.

Thanks for all of the advice.

So I went home early and checked on the sprouts, and the one that was laying over is starting to return to vertical, so I took that as a sign that it was indeed dry, so I watered all of the sprouts, significantly. Not enough to saturate the entire container, but probably a pint to a pint and a half in each container. I go back home in a few hours so I imagine I'll see some improvement.
I am going to post a pic here that I just took of the bent one, but I am going to return to my original thread since it's becoming a log of sorts.
Thanks!

It's called SuperSoil and it's from Home Depot and it's "the favorite of Western Home gardeners" according to their packaging.
It seems to be keeping my plants very, very happy.
It has a ph of 5.5-6.5 and some low nutes, if you check the thread in my sig the details are in the first post.
