question about making hash-oil

if you have a hot plate or crock pot, you wouldn't have to have it over o an open flame, but i wouldn't worry bout that with an alcohol extraction, it burns at a VERY low temp,a butane extraction on the other hand...

Alcohol extraction you have to be just as careful with. Last time I made oil, I did it outside this time, but on a hotplate to evap. the alcohol. I let it sit on the hot plate a bit too long, it started boiling then blew up into a huge flame. It sucked balls I tell ya! I was outside I still managed to singe my eyelashes off.

Either way, if you're going to do it, do it outside for just in case. If it does combust, do not blow on the flames, that just angers it even more.

why not put it into a tray then put the tray in boiling water? itll never get over 100*c then, which is WAY above the evaporation temp of alcohol(last time i did that experiment in sience class i got 70*ish)

i really wanna make oil but thers two things im scared of, the hazard, and the bubbles(i dont get how peoepl knwo when to stop popping them before theyre jsut releasing THC.

editixel, its called "oil" but its really somewhat solid. Some "oil" ive seen has apparantly been ROCK solid, some more the consistancy of snot. You can pop it on a screen in your favourite piece, stick it in a vaporizer, drip it on top of bud, or the best way....HOT KNIVES!

The oil turned out great actually! The only bad thing was I had to scrub my ass off to clean the now blackened pot I used. I got it clean though!

I've always been weary doing it inside. This guy I used to know blew himself up with Butane doing it inside, and since then, even with alcohol, I do it outside. I always fear my place will fill with fumes and blow, like what happened to him, so, outside I go.

The bubbles? What do you mean? Like when the alcohol starts bubbling a bit? If so, when it starts doing that, take it off the heat until it slows down a bit. I ignored that, and so my alcohol blew up in my face, literally.

It's just risky all around. Butane and Iso are both highly flammable chemicals and shouldn't be tampered with if you don't know the risks.

i know the risks and im usually pretty safe. And about the bubbles i think thats for BHO*headslap*. You've given me inspiration!

already been answered, but i'll answer it anyways... yes it will work... the heat is only used to speed up the process... but you have a long long wait (depending on just how much alcohol you used) ahead of you... it's just better to boil it off using a double bubler (if you got two pots that are relatively the same size, but one fits in another, you go tyourself a double boiler) and ELECTRIC stove (the electric stove is important... i used a gas stove... and it was a very dangerous thing to do, but i did it anways.. i was just lucky the whole thing didn't ignite in my face lol)

i know the method of making oil where you mix isopropol alcohol with bud and then boil it off to leave you with oil. is it possible to accomplish the same thing without using heat, but just allowing the alcohol to evaporate over a longer period of time?

making oil can be very messy.
get an 8 bag kit of bubblebags. I just made a batch of bubblehash, set the big piles to the side to dry, then i scraped my pressing screen for the small dry stuff, did one hit, and cant sit still.

When i make hash oil, i use acetone (used mainly as nail polish remover). I've read somewhere (erowid.org i think) the THC is more soluble in it than in isopropyl (or another) alcools. And acetone evaporates much faster too... you dont need heat it, so its a safer method.
I've read you can use butane too, in a process called "honey oil extraction". I never tried it (yet), but think it can be a very good process too.
Personally i love the hash oil! Its much more practical to smoke than weed, cause have almost no smell, the amount needed is much smaller, its healthier to the lungs, can be easily hidden... so... i just love it! :stoned:
