smoking weed- general question

This is a tricky one because cannabis is considered an illicit street drug, and street drugs, whether or not we like to admit it, do play a fairly active role in crime of many kinds. That's the irony since it's a relatively harmless plant and for the most part makes people happy and easy-going, but drugs, violent crime, and even organized crime have always had close association, no doubt because large amounts of money are invovled.

In the U.S., marijuana is our number one home-grown cash crop. So a vast amount of it is grown here. The next biggest place where we import it from is Mexico and, yes, Central America, where it's grown in huge fields and comes over the border in compressed bricks. I live in Texas, and Mexican schwag is ubiquitous (everywhere) here. I'm sure cannabis is imported from other places, too, and it probably has connection at times with varying degrees of crimes (not counting the distribution, sale, transport and use of cannabis itself), but if you think about it, that's not any different if the weed originates here domestically or is imported from another country. The solution for cruelty-free cannabis, I suppose, is to grow it yourself on a small scale or make sure you're only accepting it from someone who does the same or knows its origins.

If you think about it, there are potential ethical questions with nearly everything we consume or use. Fuel and the environment--or the Middle East. Food for carnivores and animal cruelty. Vegetarian food and environmentally sound farming practices. Clothing and exploited third-world country factory workers. Gemstones/diamonds and bloodshed. The list goes on and on. You may have to make your peace with not contributing to crime on a personal level rather than worrying about whether, somewhere in the supply chain that provided the joint you toked on at a party, there was some sort of connection with cruelty.

Does anyone have any information about this? I would smoke it if it was homegrown... but almost Rating: 5

Most of the bud I smoke is grown in Chicago, and I am sure that all of it is definitely grown in the US. Marijuana is the US's biggest cash crop, so its pretty safe to assume that what you are smoking is grown in the US, unless its schwag from Mexico.

Frankly, from what I've read about Mexican schwag, the thing people who smoke that need to be worried about is the pesticides that they use heavily on those crops and potential health dangers that can result. Organic home-grown or hydroponic is probably a much safer option.

several sources have told me that 3/4 of the marijuana in the us is imported from places like nicaragua and argentina... by contras. now, if you look up what contras have done/ still do ( like on wikipedia or something ) its really disgusting. I was told that by smoking weed, I am supporting these guys, these fucking crazy people. I have no problem with smoking homegrown weed of course... but I was just wondering if anyone knows where the majority of weed in the united states really comes from. i'm totally clueless

Perhaps if you lived in the southern states near the border, much of it would be imported. No one could say for certain where each batch comes from, but I'd tell ya, a lot of it is homegrown. There is absolutely no way countries like Nicaragua or Argentina could support the demand in the US. It's not economically efficient to do so unless it's in incredibly large amounts, due to homegrowers who could make 1000% profit just doing it in the country.

According to the DEA, Canada is now the leading supplier of marijuana into the United States. That contradicts that 3/4 of marijuana is coming from the southern border.

But regardless, you can't determine how sellers use the money after the weed has been dealt. Even if it was homegrown, you could be supporting other illicit activity regardless. You never know. Just smoke it :jointsmile:

The majority of it is homegrown. it really depends on were you live, the closer to a border you are, the more likely it is that your weed is imported. In NJ most of our weed comes from housing projects in NYC and NJ. People usually charge a premium for exotic weed from other countries, but it is also sometimes less fresh.

Even the English government said that 90% of cannabis was home grown I cant see why they would lie but anything can happen these days.

If hydroponic is used in large scale ops, and sometimes even small one the nutes dont always get flushed, so imo organic soil growing is probably the best.

Nothing wrong with hydroponic though, just some people ruin it by not flushing it.
