Burlington group gathering signatures for 9-11 ballot question
December 31, 2006
BURLINGTON, Vt. --City voters likely will be asked whether the state's congressional delegation should demand that the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, be investigated again.
The group is circulating petitions to get the question on the March Town Meeting Day ballot and already has 1,200 of the 1,350 signatures needed, said Marc Estrin, a Burlington writer and musician.
Burlington would be the first city in the country seeking another investigation, according to Estrin.
The group has set up a Web site explaining the shortcomings of the 9-11 Commission report, said Doug Dunbebin, a video producer and former city councilor.
The question is likely to get on the ballot because the City Council agreed in September to put questions on the ballot if enough signatures are gathered, although wording might be modified, said Jo Lamarche, city elections director.
Petitions have to be filed by Jan. 29, but Estrin said the signature drive would be done before then.
Estrin said that because the 9/11 attacks led directly to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the American people deserve an objective investigation of what happened.
In a news release, the group said the ballot question "does not advance any particular alternative theory" about what happened on 9/11, but "focuses on the need to get answers to hundreds of questions" raised by families of victims and others, including "members of the intelligence community."Zimzum Reviewed by Zimzum on . zim let me tell you a little something.....
when you look at the political spectrum...it isnt a line. it is a circle.
the radical right is right next to the radical left in the circle...
So yes I agree...the are dangerous. Just as much as the radical left.
But I hear ward churchill saying "kill americans" i dont hear that from the right.
So to me, as a regular american, who is more dangerous?
