Definitely it's best not to give a cat or kitten cow milk. For one thing, they don't digest it well and it can give them diarrhea. Kittens have that problem worse than adult cats, but adult cats aren't meant to drink cow milk, either. Also, cow milk is a very muco-genic food. That is, it promotes the creation of mucus, which is the last thing that kitty needs more of in the area of its mouth and nose. Finally, if you're already giving it amoxicillin, chances are good it's going to have diarrhea anyway because that's an antibiotic that can kill the natural intestinal flora, which results in diarrhea. Let the kitten drink regular water when it needs to, or go to the pet store and find some kitten formula, which is fairly cheap, and mix that up for it. More tuna water would also be good if you can buy some more tuna.

If the cat's not responding to antibiotics, stop giving them to him. That means he doesn't have a bacterial infection but instead has a cold or something caused by a virus. Only bacterial infections respond to antibiotics. All the amoxicillin (or other antibiotics) in the world won't make a difference in a viral infection and will only end up causing other problems with his digestion. This is why he needs to go to the vet--because he's not improving and may have something more serious and infectious, particularly if he's never been vaccinated.

Hey birldgirl...

thanks for clearing the milk thing up i knew i wasn't supposed to give him that...
Kush has been to the vet already... thats where i got the clavamox

I already knew antibiotics dont work with viral infections... but i was just asking how long this should be taking because the bottle says not to use for more than 3 days on cats... but the vet said to give it to him for no more than 2 weeks (or until the bottle is finished)...

I just think thats too long to be giving a baby antibiotics but i may be wrong...
