There are still women, Someuser, who can't take the hormones in Nuvaring or the pill or other hormonal methods like injections for various reasons reasons like a history of blood clots, their age, or a history or risk of certain types of cancer. The IUD still serves those ladies. But not if the little strings, which are really like wires, are sticking down too far and poking her partner and hurting him! Friendowl, if it felt like you were getting poked by the IUD itself and not the strings, your lady friend needs to go back to her doctor or clinic. Those devices sometimes spontaneously expel themselves--or at least come out partially--and that's not good. That happened to my younger sister.
