Blood tests?

Ok im have to give a blood test every 3 weeks to check my blood-sugar levels because i just started a new medication for my ance. My parents know i smoke pot and they want me to quit, and they said they might make me give 2 samples every 3 weeks, one for the doctor to check my sugar levels or whatever, and another to check for pot. Can they do this? And also, does thc stay in your blood for 30 days? or just your fat cells? I know when u give blood you cant have smoked 72 hours previously or they will trace signs of it, does this mean that thc only stays in your blood for 72 hours? Please help, thanks
