Amotivational Syndrome, Low Sperm count.
What I want to know (mostly from the older heads with more life experience) how do you think marijuana ACTUALLY affects people as far as being a "burnout"/amotivational syndrome and also about the low sperm count thing. I did a little research but it's almost all bullshit. Either it's whacked out hippy bullshit like "weed can cure any ailment" or whacked out right wing shit that says weed is 5 times more deadly than cigarettes and it makes your balls shrivel up and steals your soul.
Obviously neither of those extremes seem that credible, does anyone have any unbiased scinetific research on either topics? I'm a little concerned, because as much as I love smoking, I also love my life. I wanna live it, and I wanna have kids and I don't wanna be a burnout.
I smoke pretty often, sometimes up to an 8th a day but usually no more than a q or half o a week. Now I take weed breaks, excercise regularly, and try to keep my mind active and fertile.
If these myths are true, then are there any good ways of counterbalancing these side effects?Buddahbear Reviewed by Buddahbear on . Amotivational Syndrome, Low Sperm count. So many things can cause a change in sperm count but good news they are all temporary. trust the medical sites like Mayo clinic and University research sites....
A wide range of chemical substances can affect sperm quality and/or quantity, including medications. The medications listed below all have been associated with male infertility:
* Anabolic steroids
* Antihypertensives
* Allopurinol
* Erythromycin
* Chemotherapy
* Cimetidine
* Colchicine
* Cyclosporine
* Dilantin
* Gentamycin
* Nitrofurantoin
* Tetracycline
Other drugs associated with infertility include: alcohol, tobacco, excessive caffeine, marijuana, heroin, and methadone.

I'm pretty sure its bunk.
Birdgirl made a post about it, she said lots of things affect your sperm count, I believe, but for the most part its not a drastic change. Hey, things like wearing pants that are too tight will affect your sperm count, if weed affects it, fine by me, as long is its not killing a ton of my men. You only need 1 to get through anyway.

man i suffered from amotivational syndrom from smoking a lot of maryjane when i was in early high school. taking antidepressants at the same time doesnt help either. plus being ADD and on cylert and adderrall didnt help. i honestly think maryjane can make amotivation worse, especailly when combined with antidepreesants and MAOIs. its the lazy stoner stereotype.

I am not sure you can blame smoking marijuana for amotivational syndrome when you were taking antidepressants because they can cause it without any weed at all. I have been on several antidepressants as they told me it would help control my pain and all it did was make me very tired and completely zoned out. I don't take any of that now and just smoke weed and I am just fine.
MAOIs are also very powerful and can make you very tired so there are too many variables here to know which one affected you. You are probably right mixing weed and those drugs is not good and this would make the drugs stronger but then it is the drugs making your lack of motivation more than just the weed by itself would.

Antimotivational syndrome is a myth, its just BS. Duncan & Gold discussed this as early as 1982.

As far as amotivational goes..no bro. This information is credible.
It does not appear as though the amotivational syndrome is all that common among marijuana smokers. In one survey[2] a sample of almost 2000 college students was studied. There was no difference in grade point average and achievement between marijuana users and nonusers, but the users had more difficulty deciding on career goals, and a smaller number were seeking advanced professional degrees. On the other hand, other studies have shown lower school averages and higher dropout rates among users than nonusers. In any case these differences are not great. If there is such a thing as amotivational syndrome, its affects appear to be restricted to a few individuals, probably the small percentage who become heavy users.

There have been studies suggesting low sperm count and same sperm count. Nothing has been concluded yet. If cannabis consumption does affect your sperm count, not by much. Otherwise there woudn't be any rastafarians left!
As far as amotivational syndrome goes, it's still very bias. Studies say it causes it while others say it makes you want to work (again, nothing has been concluded). However, studies suggesting that cannabis consumption causes amotivational syndrome have only been successful in teenagers. As you mature into your adult years, you are affected by a certain hormone that makes you want to work.
