Childhood memories and hippies
For those around my generation, when you look back upon the time you were a child, did you ever know a hippie, but didn't realize it at the time? Or ever see a friend's sibling's room, filled with the decor of a hippie? The posters, the tye dye, the blacklight...For those of you who are confused, I'll relate with a story of my own.
In the 90s, I lived at the beach with my family in a townhouse, and down the street, there was a man in his late 20s, early 30s named Jay. He was from Cali, had long hair, and wore sandals all the time. He had a dog, a mutt, named Jerald (a la Jerry Garcia) who used to chill with him everywhere he went. The dog never barked, and was as calm as can be, and happened to enjoy playing with my dogs.
Jay owned a hotel and cafe, of which the interior of the cafe was lined with Grateful Dead merch and crazy tye dye stuff. Needless to say, our family was really chill with him, and I would go over his apartment once in a while, mostly to chill out with his dog and him. I absolutely LOVED his apartment. Tye dye, deadhead stuff, a spiral staircase, in addition to the many fine "glass sculptures" he had displayed on his shelf.
I recall one day, when I was over there, and a group of his friends came over. Two guys, whose smell at the time I couldn't determine, but now I can most definately identify, and a girl. The girl had looong straight hair, and was dressed in a loose bell-sleeved top, and cargo pants with lots of necklaces. She has a labret peircing, and her name was January. They went in the back room for a few moments, and then came back, eyes red and bloodshot, and they were giggling.
That's all I really remember, I want to go back to that beach, and see if he's still working there. I know Jerald's long gone, and I loved that dog... Just writing this brings back tons of great memories.
