I'm not sure if they landed it in Texas or California, or some other place this time, but nonetheless, you will only hear the booms if you are close enough to it as it decelerates. The boom happens when the craft decelerates below the speed of sound (1111-1136 feet per second)

Me and my buddy were sitting in the car at walmart waiting for our friend to hurry up and buy a present for his mom for Christmas yesterday. So we decided to light up a few blunts in the middle of the parking lot broad day light. Although not a great idea neither of us were worried bout it. We are steadily hotboxed and pretty high when all of a sudden I hear two loud ass bangs. I thought it was our friend just fucking with us by banging on the car so I looked round and we wasn't there. So I looked behind us and saw some lady in her car in the spot behind us so I thought automatically she hit us cause of how loud this noise was. I said oh shit dude put that out she hit us.

So it's foggy as a bitch and we're stoned as hell. He asked what we should do. So I told him not to get out and pretend like it didn't happen. I see the lady start getting out of her car and i'm like oh fuck we're screwed. So I get out and smoke it flowing straight out of the car in the middle of the parking lot. I get out and look at the back of the car and I see no damage as she starts walking away. I started screaming. I was like "HEY HEY GET BACK HERE YOURE NOT GETTING AWAY" She said excuse me? I called her on hitting the car and she said she didn't. I just stood there with a stupid grin on my face as she walked away in disgust. I found out later that it was the sonic boom from the shuttle since I live so close to the base. Loud as hell.
