for cloning, the extra equipment is mininam. All you need is a 2 or 4' flourescent light and a $5 propogation tray RW and clonex. In all, maybe $40. I grow from clones. Makes like easier and if you have a strain you like it will still be around next time. I look at this whole process as fun. Its fun to clone, not work.

the biggest advantages of using clones is that they cost nothing liek 50cents each, you know they're girls and they start out bigger so are harder to kill.
i dont find clones to be slower or faster than seeds.

If time, money and efficiency are important to you, CLONING is the WAY.. the only way...
But, if you want to see the miracle of life and some MONSTER fan leaves.. start from seed. Plants that start from seeds usualy have larger fan leaves..
I don't know why?
cheers

hmm interesting point knowm. some of my plants have huge fan leaves, and others only have really tiny ones. i just noticed now that the tiny leafed plants started as clones. that's kinda cool... i do like the larger fan leaves better tho.

most of the advantages have already been mentioned, you know there female, you know the strain so if you invest in some good genetics or come across a plant you really like you can have it around for a long time getting alot of plants instead of having to buy seed all the time, they are mature and are the same age as the mother plant they came from and can be flowered just after rooting if you wish, which results in a slightly smaller plant versus growing from seed.
they grow faster than a seedling while it may take a couple of weeks to root once rooted they generally grow much faster when compared to a seedling of the same size.
as per the fan leaves never really noticed much of a difference if you veg them long enough they can get large even on clones.

SEEDS VS CLONES
There were two main thoughts of mine that seemed much easier with seeds than with clones: 1. I like to grow different strains and types and although I do have a favorite I just like variety I guess....also how complicated is it to keep a mother around....not sure I would want a mom that would have to be kept in a seperate space with its own lighting.....just spacewise in our tiny house it would be hard since our one spare room has already gone to the original grow set up.....is there an easy to keep mom happy?

it does require a seperate space and lighting but it doesnt take up that much space generally much smaller than your flowering room but guess it depends on how many mother plants you are keeping though, as per clones they can be put on a shelve or shelves in seedling trays for rooting with flouros above them wich saves space then you can either throw them into the flowering room or veg them for a little while in the same area as the mother plants but this allows you to always have plants in flowering versus using seed with one area that is both the veg and flowering area.

If ONE only work with clones for years,, and then ONE happens to get a chance to start from seed... It is amazing..... its like driving a bus for a year and then switching to a sports car... A totaly different driving experience..
