While I'm not typically one to agree with GS, it's not just the wacko conspiracy theory guys that are saying this. I recently read an article by one of the NY Times War correspondants, who had been living in Iraq until just recently, and this was his conclusion too. Saddam was a crazy ass dictator who enforced his law with an iron fist but at least there was some law. What exists in Iraq now is pretty much complete anarchy. He pointed out that the fear of death has become so pervasive in the minds of most Iraqis that few expect to live though the year. Most wake up in the morning expecting that day to be "their day" and go to bed each night praising Allah that it wasn't. And they can all thank G Dubya Bush.

The tragedy unleashed by the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq defies description. Rating: 5
