I have a friend I work with who doesn't want her son to believe in Santa either. I never understood what the big deal is. I see her side of it, but belief in Santa is a very fun part of childhood.

Her problem with it is she feels that kids don't appreciate the gifts when they think they come from some magical creature. She wants to teach her child young that nothing comes easy, and mommy and daddy have to go to a shitty job everyday in order to buy nice gifts.

I can kind of see her point. I always had mounds of gifts as a kid and still today, I would say I get close to 1500 - $2000 dollars in gifts each year. My family just never stopped giving their kids things over christmas. Just the bigger each of our families get the less we get, because that set amount is spread amongst each of our kids, wives, girlfriends, etc.

On that note, I would have to say, knowing all your life your parents are buying you gifts would help keep the kid from thinking he can get anything he wants for doing nothing.

I still vote for Santa though.
