I would like to run some numbers and prove that smoking bans kill far more, and I like you do not like to see people dieing, when they need not.
(PLEASE NOTE THE CHART HAS NO (1/1/05)
This chart is updated every 6 months, and the ban started 1/3/04,
So lets run some numbers, the population of Ireland is 400000,
Numbers of smokers the day of the ban 1/3/04 was, 23.1% = 924000.
Six months after the ban the number of smokers were still 23.1% = 924000 on 1/11/04.
Six months later the number of smokers were ??up? to 23.7% = 948000 on 1/9/04.
Six months later the number of smokers were down to 22.8% = 912000, on 1/4/05.
Six months later the number of smokers were ??up? to 25.8% = 1032000, on 1/10/05,
Six months later the number of smokers were ??up? to 26% = 1040000, on 1/4/06.
The latest figure on the chart is only four months but I will be un-biased and put it in 22.9 = 916000, which is down from the date of the ban, but this is ??no? surprise as there has been a natural decline in the population of Ireland and the whole UK in the last 30 years, which I like to call the natural selection, like in Darwin??s theory.
Natural decline in the smoking being slowed down.
Ok let??s run some more numbers working on the above chart for Ireland, and find out how the smoking bans have slowed the natural decline in the smoking habits of the people.
From the start of the Irish population smoking prevalence chart to the date on the Irish smoking ban,
From date the chart started, 1/7/02, 25.9% = 1036000 people smoked, and to the date of the ban the natural decline in people smoking went down to 23.1% so in 18 months the natural decline in people smoking went from 25.9% to 23.1% down by 2.8%, or 1036000 ?? 924000 = 112000 less people smoking in 18 months or 6222 less people smoking per month, BUT AFTER THE BAN, and in 27 months the natural decline in people smoking is just 0.2%, that??s point 2%, less of the population smoking, or 8000 less people smoking or 285 less people smoking per month.
Not sure about this bit, anyone better at maths,
Ok let??s work out what the natural decline should actually be too at this date, there should be working on the 2.8% number, take this number from the 23.1% that was the percentage of people smoking in Ireland on the date of the ban, there should now be at least only 19% of the people smoking, and that??s being ??very? conservative, or about 760000 people smoking, but there are 916000, a difference of 156000, more people smoking than there should be, because of the ban.
