I want to share this with anyone that will listen

Below is my pride and joy my hero.... he has had 2 of his buddies commit suicide.
This is what he does everyday non stop it is not pretty to look at but it is the reality of war.

The truth does not change with our ability to stomach it.

This was today's story when he called me. He had to remove the legs of a 19 year old who had stepped on an IED. This guy also lost his entire lower part of his face. My son went back to check on him and found him with a gun in what was left of his mouth. He did not want to live without legs or a face. SO my son told him of all the advancements in prosthetics and then stayed with him all day and is back with him tonight.

So I am asking everyone to please say a prayer, send positive vibes whatever your thing is for this guy. Please remember these guys and the hell they are going through and when someone tries to tell you this war is right please tell them to go fight it themselves then. These guys have had enough.

    Lets bring them home.

    thanks
    PEACE

Your son and the other young folks over there are all heroes in my book, too. Much love to them all--and to all the loving parents who're enduring it. I want them all home, too.

I have a 20-year-old son, BlueCat. He's in college at the moment. (He's on holiday break, but that's where he normally is.) But he has friends and former high school classmates who're in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have two cousins who're there. Did you see the CNN special last week called "Combat Hospital"? It was fascinating. The work the medics do is just amazing. One of our other members, Dutch Pimp, was a comat medic in Vietnam. I'm a former fire department paramedic and now a med student, but what combat medics do is so far above what we did that it's just incredible. Anyway, my love and best wishes to your son--and to everyone else who's enduring this awful war.

Thanks Psycho and birdgirl my son is only 21 and has seen so much.
I watched Combat hospital in hopes of getting a glimpse of him . I watch all the videos because he says cameras are always around.

I wonder if dutch pimp would talk to my son? It took so long for him to become himself again the last time he visited. He said it was so surreal coming state side and then going back to non stop trauma. It would be nice to talk to someone that knows what he is going through so I know what to do to help him cope too.

Who knows maybe it is fate that I came back here and I was meant to find dutch pimp!

Thanks for listening. Good luck in med school

Dutch Pimp is one of the best guys in the world. I'll drop him a PM and link him to this thread and then, assuming he's open to communication, we'll see if he might post his email address on his profile. Is yours on your profile, BlueCat? If not, I can also be the go-between for email addresses. My address is below.

From what my son's friends and my young cousins have told me, one of the very good things about today's military is that there's a lot more psychological support than there used to be. Far more than there was during the days of the Vietnam conflict--and more, even, than during the first gulf war in the early 90s. They do a lot better job at encouraging soldiers and vets to seek counseling, and they're a lot better at catching PTSD as it's starting to emerge. They intervene earlier, and there are far more psychological resources the soldiers and vets can take advantage of. This is something I find reassuring. There are still battles against attitudes to fight. That tough, warrior exterior still makes it hard for some to admit they need help. From what I've read, Marines often have a unique resistance to seeking psychological assistance. But at least more help is available.

Glad you watched that CNN special, too. I was so impressed with the tenderness of those medical teams. And I cried my eyes out thinking about the injuries those kids were sustaining. Thanks, by the way, for the good luck message regarding school. Right now the best thing about med school is the fact that I'm on a three-and-a-half week holiday from it!

Wow that sucks. I am sorry to hear about that. Terrible things happen in war and its really sad. Imagine all the little Iraqi children that have been killed. Its genocide over there.

The ones you should hold accountable are the ones who sent them over there to die in the first place.

Pacifist - "But there were no WMDs and Saddam was no threat at all"
Supporter - "So....we should still be in Iraq"
Pacifist - "Why?! Innocent people are getting killed! Bush lied which constitutes treason. If there is no reason to be there, then it is illegal"
Supporter - "Ummm, Saddam was bad, so we should be over there" (END OF DISCUSSION)

I agree that many in our military are heros.
I also think that those who oppose war and killing are heros.
Wars are designed by the "haves". They never "have" enough.
The usa finds itself in a war every ten years or so. Lets us look at whose making money off these wars and hold them accountable.
If you dont want war, remove the profit from it.
We start wars to ensure our "american dream". I say that if we want that dream that we do it without invading other nations for their resources.
Others in the world shouldnt have to suffer so we can have a bigger this, and a better that, for a cheap price and the lives it cost to obtain them.
Big corporations have taken over our government and our military.
They view the womb of a woman as their "renewable source" of soldiers.

I hope this makes sense. I just did some bubblehash hits and my mind is wandering all over the place
    Shame on the usa government.

Ahhh Dutch, thats the stare that frightens me. I want his big dippled cheek smile to always be there. My email is in my profile I hope you'll drop me an email when you feel like it thanks...*big hug*

Yes birdgirl I think there is better treatment for PTSD but heres the problem. When you are a young soldier that works and PLAYS everyday WITH the medical personel it is harder to speak up when things start to get to you.

When my sons friend hung himself and his CO overdosed all in less then 2 weeks he called saying how down and helpless he felt. I told him to please go talk to someone but he said Mom, I have to work with those girls, I go to dinner with them and I don't want an ODPMC on my record. SO there is still a stigma attached to ANYONE that asks for help and sadly I think it is even harder for nurses and doctors to ask for help.

Once again daima I agree with you. War is a business one only has to follow the arms sales of the last 40 years to see who is to blame. It is sickening, I think if they made it manditory for all senators children to enlist they'd think twice before sending OUR kids to war.
