    Grandma in Pain

My grandma takes so much medication for shit, she has migraines all the time (chronic, i guess). She's very healthy though and dances like 3 nights a week. She's 82 i believe. I'd love to try and get her to toke a bit, maybe cut down on the 23904823093 pills she has to take, but I seriously doubt she'd go for it. She isn't really in a bad situation like your grandma though, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

I hope you can help your grandma out though, I like old people. (even the crotchety ones, they're just so funny )
phoenix Reviewed by phoenix on . Grandma in Pain I need some ideas about how to get my oma (dutch for grandma) to use marijuana for the pain she is in. She has severe arthritis and tendonitis in both of her arms, and has been prescribed Oxycodon for her pain. She cannot sleep for longer than an hour at a time because the pain wakes her up. She isn't very old, and is very active and otherwise very healthy for her age. Arthritis and tendonitis won't kill her, but the decrease in the quality of her life and the meds she has been prescribed Rating: 5

Arthritis and tendonitis won't kill her, but the decrease in the quality of her life and the meds she has been prescribed might. I hate the current medical system right now; how it only treats symptoms and never works to prevent diseases. It also rarely discusses lifestyle changes that could help a person out. I know a guy who had gout, and was able to clear it up in two weeks by changing his diet, whereas his dad had got it previous and is now on dialysis to help with his failing kidneys and liver due to all the medication he has been prescribed.

I would be very surprised if cannabis didn't help with my oma's pain and sleeplessness, so I want her to try it. I doubt she would go for it knowingly, so I guess I will have to try to get her to use it without her knowledge (is that wrong, given the circumstances and what she has to gain?). Cooking with bud is probably the best idea I can think of, but she might become suspicious or at the very least confused, if I tell her that eating a brownie every evening will help her sleep better. lol. Can anyone think of something to help me out?
Just approach her with documentation of the effictiveness of marijuana against pain without adverse side effects, compare what oxycontin does to her body, the addictiveness of it, and the side effects that come with regular use of painkillers..to those of marijuana...absolutely none.:stoned:

not that i care or anything but i do believe that ''sneaking'' cannabis in lol is like illegal...

and we all know you wouldnt want to go breaking any laws now would you??

but seriously my advice would be to get loads of infformtion and take her through it, force her, if she runs tie her down, its all for the cause, shell get her granny friends smoking and everyone knows its the grannies of this world that really tip the votes when it coems to voting (i swear they like get three votes each compared to our 1s) and than she should snap, and itll be better for her too.

but dont just keep going with the goods, make up some bad things about cannabis too otherwise she might not believes you.

    GOOD LUCK

i didn't have time over xmas (i only saw her once), but I am still planning on approaching her about it. I have NOT decided to sneakily get her high. I would gather info and talk to her about it. If/when I do talk to her (it's kinda difficult cause i live in vancouver and she lives in calgary, ab) I will update you all.

Thanks again for all your support on this.

I think you should just straight up ask.
"Hey grandma, do you know anyone with medical marijuana?"
Get to talking about it. Ask her to try it for 2 weeks.

the best way to turn her off to drugs, is to lie to her about them.

so be upfront. there are many good resources, and depending on her education level, you can choose some that will be appropriate. let her make her own decision, after all, she is an adult.

Oxycodone is right up there with heroin or morphine, just slightly less potent. Any doctor, medical specialist, or anybody with some knowledge on the matter can tell you that oxy is a more addictive, potentially more harmful, and much stronger high of a drug. Not to mention that it doesn't reduce the inflamation that your grandmother needs to have reduced, it only blocks the pain receptors. THC will actually physically help her with the disease, not just cover it up.

But damn, if your grandma get on the weed I'll glady that that oxycodone off her hands. It pisses me off my docs won't give me something stronger than Tramadol, but I guess being a 21 year old white male makes me look like more of a potential drug abuser than an old lady. *sigh* isn't special treatment based on stereotypes wonderful?

just a thought..try not to call it pot or weed, use cannabis. Definetely keep it real with her, dont sneak it..does she smoke cigs?If she does see if she will smoke with it in her cigs, I have heard that the nicotene actually kills the THC somewhat so it may be a good idea if she does go for it as it probably wont be as strong. I just cant see granny puffin white widow on the first go round. Might want somethin a little less potent...LOL

UPDATE!!! My grandmother has decided all on her own, to apply to get a medical marijuana card!!! I am soooo proud of her, and so happy that something will finally help her pain and sleeplessness. She is meeting with her arthritis specialist in about 2 weeks, and is going to ask him about it then. She wants to go the 'legal' route first, but it sounds like her mind is made up to start using it. She told my mother all about this, and my mom told her that I was growing my own "medical" marijuana- and that I would be willing to supply her with some My grandma is even considering growing her own....this is sooo amazing, she is almost 70 years old and is not closeminded like most old folks are, lol. I am so happy!!!! She will finally be free of oxycodon.

now i need to do some research of my own to find out what strains are best for pain relief, and sleep aid (altho any heavy indica is probably great for this). If anyone knows some good strains, feel free to let me know on this thread!
