I could have done without that comment, too, Blue Cat. And I often find myself wishing people would be more respectful and courteous of other cultures here as well. In other parts of the board, comments such as that wouldn't be tolerated, but this is the politics area, where a more lax attitude about courtesy/insulting comments reigns. The politics and sexuality boards are the two areas of this forum where the rules of courtesy and language aren't quite the same as they are in the other areas. It doesn't always make sense to me, and we still occasionally ask people to tone things down here, but just be aware that politics is a slightly different animal from the other boards. This was even put to a vote a few months back, and the results of the vote were to have the rules in this forum be more relaxed than they are in others. (I voted in the minority--and it was actually a fairly close decision, as I recall.) Hope this helps explain things!

My friend Bimac teaches Geology at Western he is sikh and wears a turban. I have never met a nicer person. He and his family would do anything to help anyone. He loaned me $ 1000 when my husband got in a car wreck and I couldn't pay the bills and his wife Daksha makes the best homemade naan and tandoori chicken OMG its fantastic. My mouth is watering just thinking about it

It is really sad when people are so closed minded they sell themselves short in life and miss out on some beautiful friendships.

But that's why I like the Politics forum. If you're a racist, hate the goddam commies, think aliens probed Rumfeld, then by God let it all hang out! The Arabs are of the same "race" as myself: Indo-European. I had some genetic tests done, and my Y-DNA type is associated with people from the Middle East and Southern Europe. The Y-DNA is the straight male line, going back many thousands of years. Even though my recent ancestry is from Northern Europe, they apparently migrated during the Neolithic Expansion and settled in the Germanic lands.

Most people from Northern India also have Indo-European genetic markers.

So, how can I be a "racist" if I am of the same race as most of the people that I am critical of?

Why don't you tell that punk from PA, that wants me blown up, that he's lost your "respect".

I said I was offended by the remark "filthy rag heads" Breu. It is a racist remark. Just because you are indo european does not give you a free pass for racial slurs. I think when black people use the N word it is wrong too. IMO A slur is a slur and it is disrespectful no matter what color you are.

And I did say that Great Spirit wishing a bomb on you did not help to support the case that he was any less fanatical.... I have not read enough of his post to have respect for him in the first place.

That is as "racist" a definition of a Southerner as they come! Do a search on this board for the word "redneck" and you'll see countless examples of people using the word, which certainly is a slur. Why is "raghead" worse? Why should Arabs receive special treatment, when American Southern people, and other Americans have open season declared on them - by the Arabs as well as everybody else. If one group is exempt, THAT is "racism".

I don't agree with you that redneck is a racist comment because it applies to anyone that works on a farm has a short hair cut and gets a sunburn on the back of their neck. There is no RACE involved. I lived in the south and the people that use racial slurs typically have a confederate flag hanging in their living room or on their pick up and are missing half their teeth.
