    Too late to Top??

I'm concerned that by topping they may be in shock for awhile and starting to flower so soon after topping might have an adverse effect?
Also doco, if you are really wanting an even canopy, I suggest you top them then LST them. If you do that at node 7, you will get approximately 14 main tops that are all about the same height, 2 for each node. This is what one I topped at 6 nodes and then tied over ended up looking like. It is by far the most even canopy out of all the plants, and we tried a bit of everything to see what works for us. It also has the largest overall colas, but none of the little bitty nugs the other ones have.

1st pic is what it looked like when it was topped at node 6 on like oct 16th, and the 2nd one is from like november 15th or so, about a month later. As soon as we topped it, we tied it over sideways, and now the very bottom node is the most dominant cola, its kinda crazy

these plant were topped about 30 times each! each pic is a different plant vegged under 4ft flouros only. going to flower 7 days after topping is totally fine. with larger plants i've topped/pruned right as i started flowering without any real problems. scrog forces you to do alot of training in early flower and i have never seen any bad effects as i yeild close to a lb with a 400hps.

it's not hard, you could grow the same thing. the plant does all the growing, you just gotta watch and listen to give them what they are asking for. i have only be doing this for a few years, i just tried different techniques until i found what worked best with my limited space. thanks for the compliment.

Topping and training is the only way t0 go if you have limited space!

Thanks for all the great responses! I think XCrispi made a very relevant point - light penetration is the key and all the height in the world doesn't matter if lights not getting where it does the most good. I think for this grow I will just top them and next time I'll LST/top and compare notes. I'd like to have more room horizontally to properly LST and my next grow will be just 4 plants.

I've already followed JustaSeeds incredible scrog thread - excellent example of great yields with just a few plants. It was fantastic to watch and it helped reprogram my "more plants is better" mentality. Scrog is definitely on my to-do list.

Also been following your great examples Splifted - awesome job!!

I just inherited a wardrobe cabinet 18 x 30 x 72 - maybe I will try cloning GK! That should be plenty of room for a mother and a cloner.

    Thanks again to everyone!

    MORE PENETRATION TALK...

Go outside and look at a dense bush.. you will see that not even the almighty SUN can penetrate more than 1 inch of dense foliage...

Keep the lights close.. and the plants short... unless.. of course.. you are using side lighting or ifyou are growing only 1 -3 plants under 1000 WATT HPS..
    there are exceptions to everything..
