    Growing in a wet room?

 A friend of mine is a few days from moving plants from his vegging area into his newly anointed flowering area, a free-standing "garage" where a bit of water acculuates on the floor when it rains.

It's a 12 plant in 12 DIY 5 gallon bubble-bucket w/ drip rings and air pumps-type hydro setup. Local laws are such that he's allowed 12 plants, so he wants 12 big, high-yielding plants. He's got a 1000w Hortilux HPS and a 400W MH, with the intent or running both at the same time while flowering. He's now using the MH during veg.

But back to the issue of the standing water; he's going to put the growing buckets up on plywood and cinder blocks. Does anybody think that the standing water would be an issue here? The floor is cement.

Also, his garage is about 20ft by 10ft, the growing area is tucked into a corner and will be approx. 6ft by 4ft and surrounded by mylar and mylar-coated tarp where applicable. Do the good people here anticipate the need to cut a hole in the side of the garage for ventilation, or would a bunch of fans blowing things around inside the garage and grow area be sufficient? I don't anticipate heat being an issue. The garage isn't completely airtight; it's made of wood, but it doesn't have a lot of ventilation either. plus certain things will need to be plugged up for light-tightness.

The relatively thin walls of the garage make odor-control an issue. Does anybody have any suggestions for this at this point? Does anybody have any experience with carbon filters that have no exhaust out of the growing area, i.e., recirculating carbon filter setups? Is that even an option?

My last query for now is if anybody has any suggestions or experience regarding mounting the 1000w HPS and 400w MH so as to achieve maximum light efficiency?

If the above is in any way incoherent, it's because I'm extremely blazed right now, and I thank any and all of you for your comments or suggestions on this thread and others.

The water won't be a problem.

You probably can get away with just venting the grow space out into the rest of the garage. You will have to check the temp when you have the lights up and running to be sure about heat. If it is cold where you are then it won't be a problem, you may have to heat the garage when lights are off.

Recirculating carbon filter would be your best bet.

With no real air intake other than little (lightite) cracks here and there, you don't think C02 would be an issue?

Any CFM or Carbon Filter size suggestions?

We're gonna put together a homemade activated carbon rig like in the FAQ section.

    Nope.

As big as you can afford. The bigger the better. Buy a big fan if you make a big filter.

Do you know if the vaportek imparts a smell onto the buds themselves? I don't want buds that smell funny or don't have a good weedy smell themselves.

I would not worry so much about hte water itself as the mold that it can leave behind.
Don't use wood or porous materials... I'd even avoid concrete unless you paint it with Kilz oil-based formula... otherwise you're making a home for mold.
You may have to wash your garage floor with bleach regularly.
Mold is a tough enemy to destroy.
If you can get those no-tools-required commercial-style restaurant racks to put your plants on I'd recommend that, or empty milk crates upside-down... anything that you can take out and hose off once in a while.
This is good practice of any grow op but an absolute necessity where excess moisture is involved.
Have you considered installing a French drain and sump, or putting gutters on the garage to send rainwater elsewhere (hint! rain barrel! unlimited supply of water from the sky!)?

    for your comments and suggestions.

Here's a link to the grow log: http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=95268

There are some pics there of the setup, and suggestions regarding the water issue or anything else would be a big time help.

    I love this website.

i was about to say that, lol, i would be more concerned with humidity if youve got pools of water on the floor.
