    Mormonism...

a load of bullshit. i think all religions are made up pieces of dung that are designed to give people hope, keep them in line and let them shove their problem off onto a made up, magical, invisible man in the sky that protects them from evil.

    Mormonism...

It's definitely occult. When I was in SLC, I went and saw their "convention center." If you are non-mormon, you aren't allowed in the church, which is what I really wanted to see. In the convention center, I learned a bit about their philosophy. The story of Joseph Smith and how he found the golden plates is wack, but it's interesting how they claimed after Jesus was crucified, the people living in South America got the gospel from Jesus before he rises to heaven. Then some huge battle ensues. Of all the major sects of christianity, mormons are by far the most inclusive and "rational," in terms of how they believe in Heaven and Hell. In many christian sects, if you don't believe or heard of the teachings of Jesus, you go to hell. In mormonism, if you haven't heard of Jesus you go into basically limbo until you submit to the teachings of jesus, then you go to heaven.

Wacky religion, but the mormons I came across are compassionate, good people. A lot of them are just too high on Jesus.

    Mormonism...

I dated a Mormon girl for 9 long months.

Now, she was gorgeous, and we had some major chemistry.

In that time, though, I learned more about Mormonism than I ever wanted to know.

Their religion is extremely sexist, not to mention racist...until about 25 years ago, black men could not be ordained as Mormon priests.

It's a fucking cult, indeed...one that terrifies me nearly as much as Islam.

I'd say it's a cult. From what I've heard and read about mormons, sounds so unreal to me. I'd love to meet one in person.

    No, not in most cases.

The only reason the majority of people belong to one organized religion or another is simple:

    They were raised that way.

    Think about it.

Why is someone Catholic or Protestant, Shiite or Sunni? Chances are it's because their parents follow that religion. Now, they probably feel that their religion is the right one, the true one, etc., but it's luck of the draw..what if they hadn't been born rich, white, and evangelical? Any Catholic could have just as easily been born into an Islamic family, and then they'd be praying 5 times a day instead of eating crackers and drinking wine.

Of course there are people who choose to belong to one religion or another, for reasons of their own. But those cases are rarer than the billions who were simply raised by religious parents.

It's true, in most cases the religion one has is just as incidental as the language one speaks.

As for Mormonism, it is yet another crazy racist superstition, a memetic virus that has unfortunately taken over the brains of millions. Here's a funny video about an atheist who goes door-to-door in Utah pushing his beliefs in the faces of people who are trying to sleep, to make a point about how annoying it is when Mormons do that.
