    The Blues

I started this in the Other Music section but I am pretty sure it goes here...

The Blues; American as apple pie; American as, the blues...

Who here is a blues fan(atic)? It is personally my favorite genre of music to listen to and to play. It is moslty all I play as a guitarist, and 50% of what I listen to.

Some of my favorites are: Ledbelly, SRV, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Reed, lightnin' Hopkins, etc., etc.

So who are your favorite artists? Songs? Do you play the blues if you do in fact play an instrument and what do you play?

I have a Fender Srat and a Taylor acoustic I use mostly for blues through my Peavey DB 210. The only effects I use are wah and a ts-9. I also have a Peavey wolfgang I run through a marshall cab with a line 6 head and a behringer floorboard, but I use this setup for live performances and metal mostly.

I LOVE the blues! I was raised on early blues works of the likes of Clapton, Buddy Guy, Led Zeppelin (some of it is blues, like Since I've Been Lovin You...ohhh yeah), Skynyrd, George Thorogood (sp?) and stuff like that. I don't really buy a lot blues CD's or download it. There is a kickass radio station here that plays the blues all weekend long. Sometimes I'll just turn that on and listen.

My folks love the blues too, waaaaay more than me. I mean, they go to festivals every year, and something called a Blues Cruise. Last year it went past Jamiaca and such and they had a blast. They are right into it.

Too bad the blues isn't as popular as it once was. It's a dying breed of music and i'm curious what the outcome will be once all the blues veterans die of old age, as it seems a lot of blues music these days aren't getting any young people. It stopped growing it seems.

I am a fan of all types of blues and trust me it and dyin we only multiplyin. I am a college student and love the blues, it is a part of me, I listen to the -Sirius blues station non-stop. Led-zep is pure blues. The Blues is real, visceral, un-contrived. It is the next generation of musicians that has to realize where the blues has come from, where it has gone, and take it into the future. Always reinventing, always moving forward, but always staying true to the roots of the blues. The blues can survive the latest barage of bad music being spewed forth from the record company's because it is real. Everyone feels lonley, depressed, happy, or mad, and the blues makes these emotions almost tangible. You don't feel depressed after listening to the blues, it brings you through your emotions and dumps you out on the other end feeling cleansed and ready for the next challenge.
