Oh, sure, I bet you would stay in the car in the middle of nowhere on your 6th day of no food. Dumbass.

Look Masta C, this guy was no dummy he stayed with the car for days he saw his family starving. He had a map that showed a creek he thought that he could follow the creek to the river and then the river out to the highway. It made sense what he was trying to do. I have seen survival manuals that suggest doing exactly what he did.
Even if you don't agree with what he did your lack of compassion is is pretty harsh I guess to you there is no room for mistakes ever.
Lack of compassion is a real character flaw in my opinion but you are welcome to your opinion. I'd watch the sky if I were you that bad karma just might fall on you.

MC, i think thats pretty low for calling a man "dumb" for trying to save his family. Poor Family - and after 6 days of no food i would be walking to find help too.
BB -RyanYou know the feeling of taking a huge dump and your Fav. TV show is on?...yehh!

if i was in his shoes, id start eating my family, start with the youngest.
j/k......maybe, but 6 days w/o food is nothing, maybe its something for a primped and pampered cnn chief editor but not really.
compassion is a weakness and there really isnt any room for mistakes when its your life on the line. the guy went out during a snowstorm and died, he made a mistake and paid the consequences.

He was the Cnet senior editor, not CNN. I've used many of the free downloads from the Cnet site. Very cool stuff, check it out.
Compassion is not a weakness in my book.

Whilst I agree that he shouldnt have voiced his opinion about a dead man in such a stupid way, I think there is a certain taboo about saying what we really thought about people after they have died.

My two cents.
BTW I also have no idea who this guy was or what a cnet is.

My .02
I think he was stupid. I grew up 10 miles from the nearest paved road, 25 miles from any city limit. Not exaggerated. Down here though, its the heat that kills you. Anyway, driving a Saab through the snow, Stupid. Getting *SO* lost that you don't see a car for 6+ days, Stupid. Leaving the car without adequate clothing (food or not, we know there is plenty of water), Stupid. LEAVING THE ROAD was the dumbest thing i think I have ever heard. From what I have heard, he followed this drainage thing for 8 miles southwest, then turned east which ended in some ravine less than a mile from the car. Call me crazy, but I think i would rather walk 8 miles on snow covered roads than up and down a mountain.
With the risk of sounding like an asshole, I just hope that when I die, I don't go out like that and be labeled an idiot. But yeah, its sad...he shouldn't have taken his pants off.
