Think of Napoleon.
In his day, he was feared as a conqueror.
He was respected as a brilliant strategist.
But centuries later we are left with an image of him as a megalomanaical little man with some serious 'issues', who, were he alive today and living in my town anyway, would probably have the urge to drive a red Ferrari with a vanity plate and wear a bunch of thick gold chains and as like as not hang out at strip bars, lol.

Respect through fear is a type of coersion. You don't honor out of true respect this way, but out of fear. True respect comes from appreciation for the respected, imo.

i have a question about " RESPECT "
its impossible to respect someone you percieve as lower or weaker than yourself
that was a good line right there
so whats the difference then between appreciation and respectLove is patient and kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres

My son respects me, but he does not fear me. He knows I would never harm him, but he also knows I would die, and kill for him. Which would you rather be honored for...Fear, or meager appreciation for who you are nd what you stand for?

good one....you cant respect something you fear, in my opinion...and to me, appreciation is about admiration where respect is something you more would look up to....dont know if that makes sense, but it does to me..as usual, i know what i mean...lol

i have a question about " RESPECT "
but you are looking at fear in a physical sense
like junkyard sya his son dont fear him [physically]
but what about the fear that comes with ,like what
if tyour son is afraid to disappoint you or upset you
that is still a form of fear
if i were to let people walk all over me and treat me bad
im sure they would do just that. no matter how nice i am
i would get taken advantage of right away. [appreciation]
if i show that some kind of consequence will result in some
kind of negative emotion than it keeps others from crossing that line [respect]
im so stoned today

You gotta stand up for yourself no doubt, but that isn't what gains true respect, imo. That only lets others know that you'll fuck them up if they cross you, or take advantage of you. Some people don't respect anything, some people respect violent people, others respect different things. It all comes down to what characteristics the indivual values in others.
Fear has no real respect, imo, but I do Love that philisophical weed, lol!
:stoned:
btw, my son need not fear disappointing me...he's my son and I Love him the way he is.
