Everyone loves a FREAK... the mutant thread!

As promised, here are pics of the "even-odd" thing that's happening on all the branches except the "triploid" branch. At first glance, some tips look kinda like they're going triple, but if you look close, you can see that it's the "even odd" thing.

This is what made me think the plant was "zig-zagging" and ready to start bud. Now I'm not so sure.

    The Triploid Clone Project
Utilizing the El-Cheapo No Maintanance Cloning Method

Since I've noticed the triploid branch on this grow, I've been wanting to study it in more detail. So instead of fertilizing it, I decided to make a clone, and keep the log in the FREAK SHOW thread.

I cut off the branch as close to the meristem as I could get and stuck it in a jar of water. I saw that the 1st node didn't have a fully formed 3rd (leaf/branch), but the nub is there.

I prepared a clean pair of scissors, some cloning gel, and a bowl of water. I stuck the branch into the bowl of water, and underwater cut the leaves & branches from the first node. I also snipped another cm of the end of the branch at a 45° angle. Then I dipped it in cloning gel, and stuck it back in the water.

Now I wait. It sits on my desk under a 20w tiny bulb desklamp. No clue what spectrum. No temperature control. No humidity dome. No foliar feeding. Just a stick in a jar of water sitting on my desk, like the stick I budded in the post further above except with rooting hormone: As the water evaporates, I should see root growth. (This part could qualify for "Goofy Techniques", too)

Since I took the photos and started typing this thread, there's been a thread of cloning gel forming from the stick to the bottom of the jar. But batteries are dead in cam, and I'm outta cash, and the charger's broken. So no more good pics till I get batteries or a charger. Boo hoo. You'll hafta deal with webcam pics. Which is ok in this case.

    Updates as things happen

Yes. I am aware the a razor is used in "traditional" cloning. But in addition to being a triploid thread, it's also a "el-cheapo no maintenance" cloning thread. Ook ook.

Guys we have to get on top of this triploid-polyploid-whorled phytolaxy confusion.... the 3 branches per node is WHORLED. Polyploid may or may not even manifest itself physically.

The whorled purple star I'v got has FINALLY shown just a tiny bit of side branch development but already I think 3 weeks into flower... looking very purple... but honestly a bit of a lame lanky stick. I'll get some pics if the side growth becomes anything more than lil buddies.

True dat. Technically, triploid means just an extra half set of chromosones. And quadploid mrean 2 sets. Most commonly used for "seedless" fruits and stuff like that. And triplod x triploid produces sterile(?) diploid offspring. The most common physical manifestation seem to be the triple thing, tho, I think. And etc, etc.

Triploid is just so much easier to say and spell, and sounds more descriptive to the layman, than alternating whorled phytolaxy.

I was under the impression that polyploidy in cannabis, when physically expressed, tends to show as single-bladed leaves similar to 'stress leaves'

yeah but confusing since a whorled plant is not necessarily that way as a result of a polyploid condition.
