just got back from an awesome night from this like organization that gets as much free food from wherever they can find it and makes nice meals out of it and goes on the city streets and feeds the bums "illegally". this was my second time doing this and these peopel are the coolest motherfuckers i ever met man we just chilled on a front porch in a pretty populated neighborhood smoking and drinking not giving a shit and feeding bums on the streets of norfolk virginia (bum capitol, virginia) and got chased off by the cops because we didnt have a fucking permit. but the bums love us man. food not bombs is all over the country so if you wanna help some homeless people out and chill with some cool people then you should check it out man. i mean im not trying to solicite anything but i had a good night and felt like i did something good for people that needed help and it felt good. im sorry if im rambling im drunk as hell.

it is all about the choices we make in life. And if you get thrown a curve ball and miss, you regroup and do it again or you can stay down in the trenches if you like to be miserable. Which believe it or not, a lot of people prefer to be miserable.

A few months ago when I was still in Alberta, I went to BBQ, a big BBQ and there were tons of leftover corn, smokies/hot dogs and buns, so I gladly took them to a homeless shelter and handed them out. The people were so grateful and friendly that it makes one feel really good about themselves.

I agree to what fasterspider has said, give them a classified ad and move along, but when it is -20degC outside, with no roof for these people, and no food, I can't just ignore that and let another person suffer. Hell, I get sad when I see a stray animal shivering and going through garbage, so to help that animal, I have bought beef jerkey for them, wrapped them in my coat, and fed them. It's what humans do for one another.

There is just too much suffering in the world as it is, and spedning $5, $10 to help another person is the right thing to do. I give them food, NEVER any money though. I gnore the junkies begging for change, but for someone asking for food, I'll be more than glad to help.

My friend's brother has worked with that organization for as long as I can remember. He's a really conscientious and caring person. Much respect.

to generalize a pattern of a bum on your one experience is a bit shallow...

Why are we calling them Bums anyway???yes some are bums some are misfortunate people like you and me...

I commend any effort to make someones life a little easier,,,this is the meaning of life...

these homeless people are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. half of them arent junkies, they just got a shitty hand delt to them. the city of norfolk doesnt really do anything to help them at all except for the mandatory union mission, which only lets them go there once a week. around this area bums dont really have a chance to change themselves because nobody gives them a chance. everybody just puts them down and thus their lifestyle derives from this and its just a vicious cycle. if you talk to some of these people, you could meet the wisest person in the world. i know i have.

A large portion of the homeless community, at least in Canada, are the victims of mental illness. A bus token isn't going to help them. Glad to see you are doing okay but lets not group all homeless into the lazy category.
