"cellar door" thats fucking rediculous. it really doesnt sound that cool. its just somebody trying to sound all sophistocated and shit. well, fuck it because therres a billion better phrases than "cellar door" with lots more meaning too! fuck cellar door, fuck it straight to hell

But who's trying to sound sophisticated and deep? J.R.R. Tolkien, one of the greatest and most imaginative writers I've ever read about, said that HE thought they were the most beautiful two words you can put together in the English language. Why?

I think it is a beautiful -hrase, especially in Poe's *the raven* which is where i believe the director made the mistake.

i dunno.. i just feel like theres so many better phrases that have made chills run down my spine when i heard them. cellar door (to me at least) just sounds like what it is, and when those two words are said to be oh so amazing.. i dont know its jsut kind of pathetic.

It was Tolkien, and yes, he thought the words "cellar door" were pretty-sounding, if the claims about his having said that are true.
