    What price 'Happiness'?

Okies, everyone, a little theoretical exploration.

I'm a miserable old git, at the moment, and most of my misery is due to money (or lack thereof).
I was pondering my situation, and wondered what kind of monetery windfall would eliminate that element of my misery lol
I'm not talking about 'life-changing' amounts here, but about an amount of money that would 'sort you out' and get you back on track to a 'happy' life.

    I would like a windfall of £10,000.
That way, I could settle all my debts, and still be left with enough (as long as I didn't go stupid) to ensure a financially stress-free existence for the foreseeable. I'd still have to go to work, but at least the job wouldn't become a controlling factor of my life, ie over-time would be a bonus, rather than a neccessity.

When you really look at things, you don't need a great deal of cash to actually retire - probably around £200,000?
Invested wisely, and with a modest life-style, I would think that it was not an absurd idea.

    Anyways, that's it

Terrible dillemma the more you get the more you need or if you wants some more you need more. It's a farce I hate money. My mum had very little bringing me and my brother up but I had the best childhood, cos she protected us from alll her worries about money. Looking back i can see it must have been hard for her and that it wasn't all good for her.

I'd rather be how I am now than have to do a job that i despise (previously graphic design student, yuk, or take away food shop assistant yuk yuk) or am ashamed of. I'm at uni and my husband doesn't earn much but we are lucky enough to have a really good family and live where we live. I am so looking forward to doing a job I love.

I nkow this might not help or make you feel any better but you made me feel better

you will feel better after a good sleep.

im not sure how much £10,000 is, but money isnt the key to happiness anyway. i mean in today's world - sure, money does make the world go round. but the real key to happiness is figuring out who or what are the real important parts of your life, and investing as much into them as possible. for instance, my family has always been as poor as dirt (lol) and even though it does add LOTS of stress etc.. at the end of the day we are still happy because we have each other to pick on and laugh with. money pisses me off.. but hey - what can ya do?

buy lots of lottery tickets ;p

    Yeah, ahem to that, Killa

And yeah, to what you said, Mrs P.

I wouldn't change my lifestyle, and that's the important thing to remember when you got this windfall. Otherwise, you just end up as you said - higher standard(?) of living, therefore more monetary requirement.

I hate money too and what it does to people
But there aint no getting away from it - not in this society, anyway lol
But 10grand would suit me very nicely

You still can live like this, I have relatives that do. My immediate family still fishes and hunts for food.(though we don't need too, it's more of a recreational type of supplimenting) In fact my grandparents never where in the work force, they had a farm.
