That's a beautiful collar, MJS, and a charming kitty! I'm eager to hear how long it lasted.

I got my orange cat a red and green Christmas collar last year to wear at holiday time, which was just absurd. I once tried to put a collar made of pink (fake) pearls on him, too, and he hated it. My husband said that pearl collar made him look like a drag queen instead of a tom cat. (I don't have any girl kitties, or I'd have dressed them up.)

The red and green holiday collar made him so depressed he ran under the bed and wouldn't come out or walk around or eat until I removed it. Fortunately, it's just the right size for one of my Chihuahuas, who's sporting it this year--also with a miserable expression on her face.

I'm not sure what it is that possess us to adorn small, innocent housepets at holiday time. But I think it's the same thing that used to make me happy about putting new outfits on my dolls when I was a kid. They have entire dog holiday outfits at the pet store, I noticed, including some with small reindeer antlers. It's very tempting . . . but I suppose I'll let them keep what remaining animal dignity they have.
