I never liked rap, no poetic merit. If you just read it without sounding it out to a beat or anything it sounds like a nusery rhyme. I'm speaking in generalities though.

Maybe you think that because you don't like rap? lol...

that's like saying *i hate rock, just listen to the lyrics without the instruments, it's pointless*.

I'm not saying that although if you want me to get into how little musical talent it takes to make a hit rap beat I could. No I'm saying that most rap songs, even indie rap songs dont have very weighty lyrics. Theyre just a compilation of pretty sounds. now granted, a lot of rap artists are very intelligent and dedicated people and with intelligence and dedication comes a well produced work but I'm saying the whole idea of having a musical style that relies so heavily on the beat and largely ignores complex composition is only made for the purpose of appealing to a base side of us rather than the intellectual human side. That's why people grind to little john and not Dave Brubeck. I can see why so many people like rap and how they will hotly defend something thats given them so much enjoyment, but that doesnt change the fact that it is on a sheer musical level on the bottom rung of the ladder.

Actualy, your point is basicaly saying rap doesn't require much talent.

Considering your amount of multi's and meta's, it all depends on complexity.

Now adays it's all about sound, not lyrics, the mainstream wants something that has a ring to it.

I look at rap as a test of complexity, make people notice you rhyme, but then make them think with your lines.

But clever rhyming is just such a childish source of admiration. I truly believe that music in it's most pure form comes from a group of people jamming with instruments for an extended period of time. Most people can't hear it and a lot of those who can have to be on drugs but for the few sober folks who can, jamming is basically just holding a conversation in a different language. That's why I can sit and listen to a band jam for literally hours. It's all about being able to listen, to understand what their saying, otherwise it's just noise. Rap is much simpler because nothing is inferred, the artist tells you everything you need to know.

I'll simplify your statement, the music you like is judged by the instrumental performance mostly, and for mine, the complexity in lyrics is observed the most, kind of like opposites.

sokay, its not meant to be gay just threw it in mockery of religion and its "recent" venues into homosexuality

im not really into mainstream rap and for me, the well composed lyrics are just the starting point, something to get a particular thought rolling and i think that was what good rap is all about, just something to get the ball rolling, yo know?

You should get on a mic and record yourself freestyling and post it.

Anyone could sit here for an hour and come up with some nursery rhymes. It's another thing to actually spit on the mic and improv that shit, hell even writing the lyrics beforehand, it takes some skill to get it to flow. Seeing this "rap" on the screen, it's like poetry. I gotta feel the soul in your voice to consider it rapping.
