Usually I light it evenly, once there is a cherry I inhale, I light it just in my hand, I don't put it to my lips until it is lit. That way it doesn't canoe when your sucking the flame to it.

I usually smoke out of a pipe or a bong, and the weed I get tends to be rather dense and sticky.
