Why are my results so varied?

    Hey guys n gals
    Moley here.
Ok, I dunno what the heck is going on, I'm currently about one month in from seed.

    22 plants
    3 strains
    Neville's Haze
    Skunk Haze
    Jock Horror

3 of the plants (not pictured here) are the best 3 I have ever grown, (well, so far)
But half of the plants pictured here either have:
    Yellowing leaves
    Upward curling leaves
    or
    severe drooping leaves.
Thing is, they are all in the same potting soil, (sorry guys, no specifics on the soil, bags gone) and all get watered when the soil is bone dry.
So how come some are fine, some are alright and some are just shite?
unless I'm overwatering, but I water when the soil is dry 2 inches down.
I'm using distilled water by the way and have currently not added any fert.

could b that the soil you are using is very high in newts an its overwelmed! thus causing em to die...an the strain that are goin gd are adapted to the high levels i would recommend transplanthing the dodgey ones into new soil that has vertually no newts any local garden centre should have what you need an give that a go. Also could be that the plants dont have enough breathing space in those small pots but i dont see that as being the problem as the pots are right for the size! other than that im not sure...ne1 else have any ideas?
    Gd Luck!

oo also depending on what lights you are using i.e. HPS..MH you could be heating those babies up to much an its drying out...the best lights for Veg are fluros...if you are using HID lights try moving it further away from em..an give em an occasional spraying.

Why are my results so varied?

    Hey.
Thanks for the ideas, yeah originally like 2 weeks ago they were too close to my HPS, so I put them under a fluro for a week, now they are under a HPS but they are about 1.5m away (roughly around 5 feet) from the light.
I think it could be the soil, but the thing is one from each strain is doing amazing, where as the rest are not doing so well, thats why I'm confused, if they were all good / bad I'd understand, just some are doing better than others, I suppose it's all genetic.
I just moved the good ones into a better soil base that I have used before and am planning to transplant the rest within the week.
Also from the move I just done, the really good ones have a much further advanced rooting structure than the ones that I have now thrown away (not pictured but they were completely fucked)

got exactly same problem (bottom leaves yelowing/purpuling, top leaves curling up) I'm thinking about a shitty soil too, because mine is some organic universal soil without no specifications. but I think that it migth be a lack of ferts, I'll try to fert them more.

since placed in my miracle grow soil, they seem to be doing better.
    Anyways, my light= a 400w HPS,
I don't get how, "there are too many plants" because, the optimal size for the light is like 2x4 or whatever, and thats less space than is currently being used.
It's not like the plants suck up the light.
