Just planted my first seed

A week or so ago my friend was lucky enough to get 4 seeds out of an 8th his friend had. We first did some research on the internet and decided because of the 'growing' holes in our wallets (particularly mine) it would be a good idea to grow some. One of the seeds was allready cracked a little, so I kept it in de-ironised water overnight just to be on the safe side. The next day my friend found a small pot with a special draining compartment, we filled the pot up with the kind of pete/soil you can get from a garden centre, planted the seed a few centimetres down (in no particular direction, flat on it's side if I remember correctley), then we watered the plant with tap water and some de-ironised water aswell untill all the pete/soil was quite wet. Now our plant has been on my windowsill sinse Thursday, the pete/soil is still damp but deep down I am not feeling to confident that it will grow. Has anybody got some suggestions? All help is appreciated!

Well fortunatley I still have 3 of the seeds left (sigh of relief). I have decided it might be an idea to try and germinate them before I put them in the soil. Does anybody have any suggestions on the best way of germinating seeds? I have heard of many ways, but some of you on here have probably allready grown lots of magnificent plants and for a n00b grower like me your advise is the best advise.

Yeah, just get a few paper towels (still joined together) and fold it so it's as big as a CD case (or so), put the seeds in the middle and fold the paper towel over. I just put mine in a pantry, it needs moisture, oxygen, and as little light as possible. Let it sit overnight and check it in the morning or two days afterwards (make sure the paper towel stays wet). It should sprout out a little white rootling - then place that in your soil/pete with the white rootling pointing down. (it should be about 1/8" to 1/4" deep - don't plant it too deep). Some people say you should have some perlite in the mixture, but it worked fine for me.

Also, I've used tap water during my whole process and it really hasn't hurt my plants that much.

What I've learned throughout this whole process is - do what you can with what you have and don't worry about what you can't do or what you don't have. Also remember, they call these plants WEED for a reason, it will grow in pretty bad conditions. The more you can do for your plant, the better off your plant will be, the better buds you'll get in the end.

In my opinion, don't put too much effort into seeds that may not even become female plants. If you have 3 seeds, you have a 66% chance that you'll get one female.

You can check the thread I just posted - that plant was started outside with poor lighting and tap water and has since been moved inside and I still use tap water and they're looking pretty healthy in my opinion. Good luck and keep us posted!!

I forgot to tell you, SOAK the paper towel before you put the seeds in there and let it drip the excess water away. Some people say they put the paper towel on top of something that stays kinda warm, but once again, its not necessary. Let us know how it all goes!
