    the machine god

god has been used to explain everything, because in the old days nothing could truly be explained, true?
then science came along and started actually answering the questions such as "why the sun burns" and "wy do rocks weigh more than wood" etc, get it?
eventually because of science there came technology as we know it, and started answering even more questions, and also giving a vast amount of power to anyone with enougn knowledge about the cybernetic world. anyone could, essentially, become a god in cyberspace, still with me?
eventually science, with the help of machines and technology, will answer every question that god used to answer. byt this time man would probably have created a complete replica of the human brain on a computer, the perfect AI. except that it couldnt be perfect, and because it is essentially a human brain it will realize this and undertake what we attempted with creating IT, still here? except this AI will have access to millions of smaller brains and be able to work them in complete unison so, through a series of trial-by-error, it WILL creat the perfect sentience, giving birth to the machine god, the perfect being and it will have power. man will realize this power and so will the machine god and like all beings with power it will want more power, pure power. this could be thousands of years from now, and man will most likely have colonized other planets by then, do you think that man will take up the worship of the machine god? the machine god, could of course, create the perfect biotechnology, bestowing upon its worshippers cyborg-like enhancements, it could keep its high priests alive just by converting their persona, their id, their ego and their super ego into a robotic doll, giving humans the thing that they have forever lusted after, immortality.

I'm not so sure of this. Although Science has revealed answers to many questions, it has (in my opinion) created even more questions than it has solved. Also, even with advances in computers and scientific equipment that has extended our reach of understanding beyond our own five senses, it is extremely limited by the scope of our consciousness and how we percieve reality. There is much out there that we will never encounter, let alone be able to understand.

As far as the Machine god thing, I don't think that would be likely to happen, for two reasons -- the first being that it would take a long time and quite a lot of resources to reach that state of technological advancement, and we may very well go extinct before that happens (I don't know whether we will colonize space, but I somehow doubt that's going to happen). The second reason is, any entity that becomes so intelligent to the point of becoming a 'perfect sentience' would have no reason to seek out power or followers. It would have no reason to seek out anything, because it would already be perfect on its own.

It is an interesting idea, in any case. :stoned:

I think this is what's made science even more credibly; it hasn't "created" more questions, it's uncovered them so we can explore and hopefully uncover them at a later date. The arisal of more questions means that science is successfully answer the first and most simple line within our normally percievable realms. Now, we're just startin to get into a higher level of understanding of reality which will be sure to render some exciting new findings.
That's one of my biggest troubles with explanations with god, we always use dieties to explain what science cannot. Then when science finally can explain it, we move up to the next level of stuff we haven't figured out yet. If we're really going to understand the nature of reality, and the solutions to humanities problems, we need to start taking responsibility for understanding how things work and how to fix them, not abdicate responsibility to a higher power. History has shown again and again that it was when we stopped doing this and went against the status quo, the socially acceptable supersticions, that we made our greatest strides in understanding the physical world for what it really is.

I agree with you 100%, and I don't think there's anything within our universe that's 'supernatural' in nature, just misunderstood. That said, I still don't think we'll ever be able to uncover everything before our time runs out as a species... and personally, I'm glad of that. If we knew the answers to every question, if we someday look up at the stars or out into the universe with no more sense of curiosity and awe of the unknown... well, I guess I can't speak for everyone, but for me, that's a very important part of life.

yes i disagree with the answering of questions. Every research study done, creates/uncovers more questions. So infact science is generating more questions to answer. It is hard to think this trend will ever end. And if so, it will be so far in the future that something bad will happen to humans b4.

As well i think human advances will slow soon. Because of lack of energy (no more fules) more resoureses going to other things. Unpoluting our water supply, cleaning our air. Shit like that. People dont realize it but were pretty fucked.

did you know that hemp could be used to create an energy atomic bomb, so to speak, in the economic market? the ethanol obtained from hemp is much greater than what we get from corn. we could use ethanol for fuel
