I think perhaps media and entertainment portrayals have helped perpetuate the stoner "myth." In my lifetime, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong helped add to the stereotype. For that matter, so did Wayne and Garth, now that I think about it. There've also been an awful lot of musicians and artistic types who've helped as well, but most of them, like Willie Nelson, for instance, just really seem more like laid-back, nice people who like to smoke weed rather than stereotypical stoners.

Most people are at least one steriotype, but this one just seems uncommon to me. It makes me wonder how did people come up with a steriotype that isn't even commonly true.
