Does anyone know the light transmission of plexiglass? Google tells me that modern greenhouses are made of plexi and they seem to indicate that it allows even more light transmission than glass?

Hehe, yeah thanks! I've been there already and I found it reassuring, but all this is chinese to me:

PMMA transmits more light (up to 93% of visible light) than glass.[1]
Unlike glass, PMMA does not filter ultraviolet (UV) light. PMMA transmits UV light, at best intensity, down to 300 nm. Some manufacturers[2] coat their PMMA with UV films to add this property. On the other hand, PMMA molecules have great UV stability compared to polycarbonate.
PMMA allows infrared light of up to 2800 nm wavelength to pass. IR of longer wavelengths, up to 25,000 nm, are essentially blocked. Special formulations of colored PMMA exist to allow specific IR wavelengths to pass while blocking visible light (for remote control or heat sensor applications, for example).

But would anyone agree that plexiglass seems to transmit roughly as much light as glass? Because it does a good job of sealing off heat...

Polycarbonate transmittance in 5/6 of the NIR & 1/5 of the SWIR regions. Also, polycarbonate is almost completely transparent throughout the entire visible region of the spectrum and very sharply cuts off to ~0% transmission at almost exactly 400 nm, blocking all UV light transmission

UV light is beyond the violet range, but is the light we want for our plants contained within the visible range?

This chart show how plexiglas cuts off sharply at 1660 nanometers, but shows good transmission from 860 - 1600. Where are our favorite reds, whites and blues on that chart?

While searching for my answers btw, I found that cool blue light, the favorite of veggie farmers, is not very good for you, and approaches the retina damaging quality of UV...might be good to know.

hey smokealotofpoyamus , yes hook vortex fan up directly to end of cooltube or w/ a piece of ductwork . also i've found the vortex/ hurricane fans do a much better job of pulling air than they do pushing it . in other words suck dont blow lol .
