First it's a weed! If you give it halfway decent soil, proper light and water, it will grow! The black light won't grow your plant. Get some CFLs or some tube fluoros, if you can't afford a HPS or other good light. I use cool whites for veg and GE Bath and Kitchen for bud. More light is better. Keep your flouros about 1 - 2 inches from your plants. CFLs should be a bit further away since they are warmer. Grow organically- you don't need to smoke poisons. I start my plants under CLFs and place them on the window sill during the day. They get 24/7 light. I start them in some dark blue plastic cups (16 oz). I can see the roots to judge when to transplant to gallon pots, but not much light gets through to disturb the roots. At one month, I top the plants to increase the number of growth tips. At 6 or 7 weeks, I start to taper off the light, dropping it down little by little to 12/12. They bud like crazy, I kill (and smoke) the males. Although urban legend says males are useless to smoke, I find they are quite smokable, just less potent than females. They get me high. I take cuttings from the best female(s) to get back up to my legal limit, if necessary (I'm a Cali med user). I have a microscope (try Radio Shack- $10) and use it to help judge which females to clone and when to harvest. If you start with the best soil, most remaining plant problems are from overfeeding and overwatering. I finish my plants up in 5 and 6 gallon pots. Be careful with your wiring and keep things clean. Check out the organic growing sections of various boards and learn the early signs of nutrient deficiencies- some strains of pot are very "hungry" plants.
