    HydroFarm 456cfm, confused?

Ok, well i can see they did this for cooling purposes, but there is an opening on the both sides of this thing for air intake.... or is the one side not sucking? cause i had a carbon filter on the end sucking and it still smelled, took it off put it on the side pushing and it worked. ok so if u have no idea what im talking about, on both sides of the squirl cage there are openings, one for air in, and one for the motor. and then the opening in the ussual spot fot the air out..? im jsut confused as to if im sucking dirty air in after its been cleaned, or if the smell just leaked cause it works better pushing through the filter as opposed to pulling through it.

I used the same fan before and if you put anything to restrict the intake (like an air cooled hood or carbon filter) the other side with the screen pulls air from the room. Getting an inline fan solved the problem.

fuck dudes, they should have said something about this before i bought it on the box, because its one of the bigger ones hydrofarm makes the smaller ones dont even have the hole there. kinda pisses me off. i guess ill have to keep it the way it is then buy an inline later at some point

Hey man, don't despair, there is a cheap solution. Build a box for your squirrel cage. Simple as that. There are plans on the net if you look. Basically, you want to mount the output of the fan flush with one side of the box, and then seal the rest of the box except for one intake hole. Caulk the shit out of the inside of the box, and mount your filter on the intake hole. Ta-da, problem solved. Squirell cages aren't air tight, so unless you're pushing through the filter, you gotta box them hoes up first.

Check out my l33t ms paint version of a squirrel cage box. Get the idea? Cheaper than buying another fan, just pick up 1 piece of plywood, some caulk, and some 90 degree brackets to make box building easier.

haha i love the pic, yeah that will work, awsome diy solution, these things dont seem to be as good as the smaller ones because of this, seems like u would loose alot of suction with out building a box.
