CFL Scortch!!! oh no... my babies. HELP

here are some pics of my first serious grow. things were going great for the first couple weeks. fast germ time, I have been growing the seedlings each under there own 100w 1600lumens daylight cfl. put on a 10" shop lite type sheild. then I built this lite box and put 4 100w 1600lumens and 2 150 soft white. (can't find a 150w daylite). the plants have been underneath the dome. but still like 6" or more from the source, although they have been IN the dome. just noticed last nite the scorching so i raised the lite. the space they are in is 2x2.5' and I was thinking that i am still short for the amount of lite i should be putting on these babies. I plan to throw 400whps for flowering, but i thought that this setup would do great for vegging. how high should this setup be. pics show where I have it now....

    thanks :stoned:

with cfl you want them as close as possible with out them thouching the plants if they are cool white, however with warm white they have to be kept at least 2 inches away.I'm suprised you have a heat problem seeing as they are 6 inches away,do you have any ventilation in there?or a fan blowing on them?and you want to replace those soft white bulbs which put out more red light and alot of heat, with daylight or cool white for vegging.Or just keep the day light ones that you have and put them with your 400w hps, this will be fine for vegging

thanks, the only problem with the daylite and cool white, i can only find them in 100w. you mentioned putting the hps but that also gives out the red spectrum. same as the ones i have, right? but no don't have a fan blowing yet. and ya they have developed the scorching since adding the 2 soft white.
so if thats the case then I should be able to use the same setup just raising it up some, ya?

ye sure, but i urge you to get a fan in there blowing some fresh air in, it is crucial. As for your hps many growers use this for both veg and flowering with acceptable results, and with the extra daylight bulbs you have that will plug the little blue light the hps is missing, which will give you a bumper crop, remember with hps ventilation is needed

hey babe, i see no signs of burning whatsoever. you can lower those lights to 1" above the plants with no probs as long as you're running an oscillating fan.

    hope this helps...

thanks again titus, ya i know i need the fan. and thanks abattoir for the kind words on the cabinet, just finished it the other day, great little hideaway, after the door closes the washer rolls into place hidding the cab. I have a 6" vent pipe coming up from the crawl space and a 4" vent going into the adic
i plan on putting an inline 4" 80cfm fan in the roof vent, but ya i need a small fan in the space for moving air, and strengthening the stalks... ya, i'd put the hps on the job but don't have it yet. I plan to make my own reflector and converting a parking lot lite into grow service.....
everything for this project has been purchased from the hardware store, no trips to the hydro stores..... (well except a sweeeeet little package from the Doc....)
but as far as the plants go I think I have the height issue solved, they are really kickin ass, and growing since yesterday.... bet they're lovin the new pots and soil..... but ya kindprincess, if you look at the first pic, through the blur you'll see where it looks like it's a little yellowing but in real time it's a little scortched, no real damage luckily I caught it soon. I think it's from the metal reflections though.....

i burn some fan leaves on a daily basis. damn things reachout and grab the bulbs... as long as the nodes/buds don't get burned (and i mean BURNED burned) you'll be fine. mine are not even affected by the loss of a leaf or two a day.

    i am running 16 cfls and a 400hps.

you shouldn't have burning probs, i see you are very loving and carful with your babies...

good luck, sweetie, i'll check in from time to time

    love, kp

Plants look pretty healthy to me. May be developing some sort of nutrient deficiency judging by the light green leaf outlines, but not an issue yet. Nice and stocky. Keep doing what you're doing.
